I agree with you. Mahoney may well be summoned to Rome, where he can be a dime-a-dozen Cardinal.
Refreshing.
Ah.

No comment on your claim that Mark 5:1-20 is somehownot in the lectionary, when it just so happens to be the gospel reading of the day.

Okay.

About what I expected youwould do.

As for Mahoney being summoned to Rome, I am not so sure that will be the "reward" you think it would be.

More likely, Benedict would be pleased to have him close by, for shoe-shine duty, or some other "important work."

If that doeshappen, and then criminal charges end up being filed in some surprise move, you can be assuredthat Benedict will be only TOO happy to order him back to the States, under penalty of sin, if not outright excommunication, should Mahoney fail to comply.

The guy is a disgrace, and I have a VERYhard time seeing anyone wanting to shield him from the consequences of his actions.

I know you don't believe that, but considering your secret knowledge yetundisclosed, I find it hardtoworry much about what you do or do not believe.

Careful, Anthony.

Throwing a rock at someone else's house is not the appropriate response to a scandal in ourown.

And when they claim they lack such problems, it does little good to point to such stories, as it opens us to a charge of finger-pointing or making excuses.

Much better to pray for them. At most, you could say, "Oh, you poor, naive child. May God bledd you, and have much mercy upon you, that your faith will not be shaken when you encounter those who belong at the bottom of the sea."

They will meet them one day, just as we have.

You might wonder just why such an evil attack came against the Catholic Church. I'm always surprised when Protestants don't ask why this attack did not come against their churches, as a way to discredit them.

Sure, you can easily say that many leaders in the CC gave into temptation to try to preserve the Church's good name, at the cost of the safety of children. You'd be quite correct, and I have no fear that they will escape the consequences of that decision. Maybe in THIS world, but not in the life to come. The is a Judgement coming one day, for every one of us.

But we also ought to ask where such evil ultimately comes from. It isn't Cleveland. It has a SOURCE, and that source chose to make the attack against the Catholic Church, much more so than against any of their communities.

And Jesus TOLD us it was going to happen, so we ought not be surprised. Today, Preston all but accused me of being a child abuser. This is just the beginning of how priests will be seen by the world, and later, all Catholics.

Not so the Protestants. For some reason, they don't seem to be enough of a threat for our enemy to bother much with them.

It is strange how it never seems to occur to them, or to ask what it is we have, that they lack, that MUST be attacked, MUST be destroyed.

Some child protection advocates say with the safeguards instituted by the Church, children are safer in Catholic schools and Churches than in any other organization.
I can see you have a reading comprehension snafu. No problem Anthony. Most Catholics like to try to double-talk their way out of nonsense.

First, off - I didn't say "the Church", but you have me now saying it, hmmmm, please don't twist my words around.

Secondly, I already am part of this supposed Entity that is called the "Church" whether you agree to it or not. You really don't have a say in it, nor can you make the judgment call of not including me. You mimic men.

As for my charity work, it really is none of your business.

Hmm, not a "name" to be found in the entire post. Why do you lie?

Not my "opinion", not anyone's "opinion". The Church banned bibles that were faulty translations. See Verbum Spes et Dei Est. Bible reading was and is indulgenced. Since she discerned the canon of scripture, what was and was not inspired, she and only she is in a position to determine if a translation is correct and thereby APPROVE (yes, APPROVE) it. Ties in with being One, True and all that.

:)

(Gotta watch those tricky links you depend upon so much...they're usually either incorrect, incomplete or taken out of context. That's what you get for relying solely on the internet for your information. Never a good idea.)

1... My apologies on Mark 5:1-20. Thank you for pointing that out. I now see it.

2... As for Mahoney, yes time will tell. I doubt if he will get the full Cardinal Law treatment. But I also doubt he will be shining anyone's shoes.

Serious question -- Do you believe that Benedict in his former capacity was unaware of Mahoney's actions?

Thanks for this Fr. Dye, and for your gentle presence here. I must admit that if it weren't for you and Robert being here (as well as my Catholic friends of course), I would have left this thread long ago.

But yes, you're right of course, the evil one does focus his attack on the only thing that threatens him, I realize that now. Such hatred and false witness, such maliciousness towards our faithful priests and religious and worst of all, our Blessed Mother. I respond in anger and disgust and it only inflames them. My weekly hour in adoration is the best place for me to refocus on what Christ expects of me.

Please pray for me.

anthoiny, do you really equate some of thsoe preachers that you mentioned to be as equally guilty and so sinfulful as your many, many clerics engaged in the rapine of little children?
charlie parham
BeliefsParham's beliefs developed over time. Several factors influenced his theological ideas. He preferred to work out doctrinal ideas in private meditation, he believed the Holy Spirit communicated with him directly, and he rejected established religious authority. He focused on "salvation by faith; healing by faith; laying on of hands and prayer; sanctification by faith; coming (premillennial) of Christ; the baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire, which seals the bride and bestows the gifts".[9]
THERE IS NO HINT OF ANY WRONGDOING BY THIS MAN WHO CHOSE TO LEAD A HOLY LIFE REGARDLESS OF HIS DOCTRINE, YOUR CATHPOLIC CLERGY CANT CONFESS TO A DESIRE TO LEAD A HOLY LIFESTYLE.
aimee Semple.
Strong emotions and the mind's ability to trigger the production of opiates, endorphins and enkephalins; have also been offered as explanations as well as the healings are simply faked. In the case of McPherson, there was no evidence of fraud found.[18] In August 1921, doctors from the American Medical Association in San Francisco, secretly investigated some of McPherson's local revival meetings. The subsequent AMA report stated Aimee Semple McPherson's healing was "genuine, beneficial and wonderful."[19]
guess that makes her a bad woman since she never messed with little boys huh?
jim bakker
Falwell called Bakker a liar, an embezzler, a sexual deviant, and "the greatest scab and cancer on the face of Christianity in 2,000 years of church history".[10] In 1988, Falwell said that the Bakker scandal had "strengthened broadcast evangelism and made Christianity stronger, more mature and more committed."[11] Bakker's son, Jay, wrote in 2001 that the Bakkers felt betrayed by Falwell, whom they thought, at the time of Bakker's resignation, intended to help in Bakker's eventual restoration as head of the PTL ministry organization.[4]:33–37
now look closely at what jerrry said and how he felt about this scum. got any catholic ministers that speak out about the rapine that goes on in YOUR cchurch? Nah. they run home to the vatican where they are protected.
Jimmy Swaggart
Sexual scandals in the late 1980s and early 1990's led the Assemblies of God to defrock him, and to his temporarily stepping down as the head of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries.[2]
HIS CHURCH KICKED HIM OUT OF THEIR DENOMINATION. HOW MANY CATHOLIC CLERICS HAVE BEEN KICKED OUT OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH?
IF YOUR CHURCH KICKED THEM OUT, YOU WOULD HAVE TO CLOSE THOUSANDS OF YOUR CHURCHES.
