Pope John Paul II had his good qualities and what this man went through during world war two had to be devastating and the attack on his life was a coward decision by the person who carried out this vicious act. I felt sorry for John Paul about the disease he had.

He was a Pope for 33 yrs.
There is too much info about what he DID NOT do for so many clergy abuse victims.

Countless priests and other clergy were protected under his reign. The list or the paper trail is a fact that cannot be ignored yet according to the Vatican it's like it never happened.

Yes in many ways he was a good person but he also led a double life and now he gets a free pass towards sainthood.

Another fact people do not know about this man, this Pope use to FLAGELLATE himself. In other words: whip himself.

A priest told me it was true that Pope John Paul did this because he was a mystic and he said he was glad he was not himself a mystic.
That priest gave me a silly answer.

If you heard or knew someone who cut him or herself or use a whip would you not think this person needed some medical help?

Pope John II was a Pope but making him a saint is just a big public relation move on the Vatican's part.

What is sad is that so many Roman Catholics will buy into the sainthood of this pontiff and the Vatican stands to make a lot of money on it.

You know that the late Pope used to flagellate himself. Just you know this, through an unnamed "priest".

Okay.

Okay.
Dan I did my research. It's a well known fact he did whip himself regularly.

Just google "Pope John Paul II flagellated himself"

I believe it's something the Vatican was not happy it was leaked out but it did.

Many Nuns and Priests at the Vatican knew this about this former Pontiff.

Even Fox News made statements about what Pope John Paul II did.

If you choose not to look it up that is sad and your choice.

Dan so it's not a lie that Pope John Paul II did this self-flagellation.

So many Roman Catholics seem to ignore this fact but ignoring it doesn't make it not true.

No, no, no. Not another "Cadaver Synod"!*

*The Cadaver Synod (also called the Cadaver Trial or, in Latin, the Synodus Horrenda) is the name commonly given to the POSTHUMOUS ecclesiastical trial of Catholic Pope Formosus, held in the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome during January of 897 A.D.

Isn't this the same guy that kissed the Koran? Isn't this the same guy that invited all other religions to come together and pray, thus putting all religions (both Christian and non Christian) on an equal par. I remember the days when the Roman Catholic Church taught that we were the only true religion. Now, through JP II's leadership, we are just one church among many and it doesn't make any difference what religion you belong to now. Sounds like to me, that the church didn't have many good choices among candidates for sainthood. I think they rushed into this one a little too quickly.
I also am appalled to know that John XXIII is up for sainthood too. Wow..this is the guy that started Vatican II and brought all kinds of abuse and chaos into the church, prompting hundreds of thousands to leave the church. And, you want to reward people like this with Sainthood?????
I found a different church to attend that still has order in it, and that's alright now...all churches are equal now..right?
With all the crap that was foisted upon us by Paul VI, let's honor him too!!!

I wonder if the Archbishop who was murdered in his church and The 3 American Nuns who were murdered in Nicaragua not to mention the countless indigenous peoples by the rightist backed troops funded by The CIA and John Paul II's and Ratzinger's attack on the Liberation Theologies because of there socialist basis will think him to be a Saint! He deserved the beatings he gave himself! But..... Sainthood?

Can't believe the church is still doing this. They need to read the bible better. Jesus said himself that all Christians are saints. We don't need cardinals to declares this. I'm so upset with the church.

Sainthood during the American Holocaust.

"Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for someone responsible for another's life the common good of the family or the Senate.  Unfortunately, it happens that the need to render the aggressor incapable of causing harm sometimes involves taking his life.  In this case the fatal outcome is attributable to the aggressor who actions brought it about, even though he may not be morally responsible because of a lack of the use of reason"

Pope John Paul II (Evangelium Vitae)

Premeditated and orchestrated population control through decision makers in law enforcement (Congress, SCOTUS, Federal, State etc.) collusion / terrorism. No justice instead of due process one receives a sham.

The Corporation (United States Government) its collusive subsidiaries (VA, DHS, HHS, USSC (99-565), SEC, FDIC, IRS, DOJ, FBI, DOL, SSA, DHHS, USPS, OPM, EEOC, MSPB, NLRB, OWCP, etc.). To achieve the National Goal in Executive Order 12871 (reduce government (we the people) and reduce government spending (benefits - compensation, pension, medical, military awards, etc.) death fix it / deficit. Terrorism - Murderbyproxy / Terminal Injustice using coercion / corruption/ collusion / subversion / sabotage / subterfuge / economic oppression (outrageous extreme physical, mental, financial and emotional stress / cointelpro tactics etc. Lie, delay and deny until you die. Torture. Death fix it >deficit<. American Holocaust Perpetraitors.

YHVH suspends mercy in response to god (government of deceivers) suspension of inalienable rights (life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness) in the American Holocaust (moral corruption - fraud - terminal injustice - economic oppression - murderbyproxy - population control - death fix it>deficit<). National goal accomplished reduce government (we the people) reduce government spending (no justice, no liabilities).

"Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is the numbers of people all over the world who have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience ... Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves ...[and] the grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem." - Howard Zinn

This shall serve as yet another tribute to members of my postal/military /government congressional, federal, state and local family and their family members; those who lost love ones or will soon lose love ones and those who may survive the American Holocaust. See the disapproving icons you got? That's because most of the Catholics here do not want to hear the truth, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Few (VERY few) Catholics can be objective when it comes to their "no-fault" clergy.

Anyway, people who can think for themselves would be in agreement with you.

I'm glad you have done your own research Dan about Pope John Paul II whipping himself.

What issue do I have about him whipping himself?

Well, first of all, I believe Pope Paul John Paul II was a good man and live through many hard times.

This man of God was hurting and tormented by the well known world wide cover-up crimes about the victims being abused by the clergy under his reign. So many innocents children and confused youth were damaged.

Therefore, this pontiff decided some kind of penance and offered this spiritual bloody whipping pain with those of the victims of clergy abuse with Jesus etc...That kind of sacrifice stuff Dan may have worked in the Middle-Ages. But Dan...today that kind of penance is called washing your hands off this major clergy abuse problem.

Pope John Paul II was in a position of importance that of a world leader. He failed to make major changes to safe guard the innocents. He decide instead to turn away and pass the problem to someone else and we all know now it was Pope Benedict XVI. So Dan you know the rest of the sad story about Benedict.

John Paul my have function at being good in many people's eyes but sadly this same John Paul II still did bad things by avoiding to do the right thing. He should have turned in to the law officials these bad clergy who were wolves and were killing the souls of countless innocent people.

Therefore, you cannot blame people who are not happy about the news of John Paul II to be named: "St. John Paul the Great."

This is my personal opinion.
