If the Pope does not care about his security, then why bother employing thousands of security guards to protect him and spending millions for that purpose. Just let him go and live like anyone else. That reminds me of Benazir Bhutto, who was provided with a bullet proof car and hundreds of security personnel by Pakistani government.
And then what did she do? She put her head out of the car to show herself off and was shot at. Then her party and family complained that she was not protected. You can have it both way.
