The author even uses the redundannt qualifer "self-governing" here, in case a dim reader doesn't know what "autonomous" means.
"The Anglican Communion is made up of 38 independent self-governing churches, of which the U.S. Episcopal Church is one."
Here again the author employs a redundancy lest a dim bulb think the Anglican Communion and TEC are the same organization.
Given the title "..Fast Facts", I'm not sure how much clearer the author could have made the distinction betwixt the two.
.....and both statements are factual, which makes your upset over the piece a real mystery.
I can give you a carefully selected collection of "fast facts" that could result in the conclusion that communism and capitalism are identical. We did that exercise in Journalism 101 many decades ago.

Nah.
But of the eighteen dates listed, only five are about very limited issues of The Episcopal Church. The other thirteen are about people who have disagreements with The Episcopal Church.
The Author [and article] expresses a biased viewpoint which is for the most part unfavorable to The Episcopal Church ...
"unfavorable" because it's factual?

A subtle, but valid distinction. It becomes a favorite literary tool used by the propagandist.

In the present example, the CNN reporter weaves together a series of events and also offers references to historical events, all of which happened and all of which are "factual" in order to guide the reader toward making a particular type of conclusion.

It's very obvious what the conclusion is intended to be as the conclusion is presented right off the bat.

"... what you need to know ..."

Phrasing is used to "paint" the truth.

For instance:

"... has been a self-governing autonomous body since 1785."

A succinct mischaracterization based around the adjective "since."
No. TEC was formed in 1785 as a self-governing autonomous body that takes its guidance from the Holy Spirit in discipleship to Jesus Christ.

The phrase used implies that TEC was NOT a self-governing autonomous body BEFORE 1985, but, that it was in existence [as the Colonial Church of England]. That "factual" phrase is immediately bolstered and followed by "Other Facts," beginning with the reference to a half-truth about schism that reached a head under King Henry VIII, thereby strengthening the impression that TEC is really only a cloaking of the Church of England.

But, it is not. It is a Christian Church that takes its Apostolic Succession through and from The Scottish Rite, which has roots to the Early Church and not resultant from the schism which led to the formation of the Church of England, itself having been an extension of the Roman Church.

The recognition of these actual roots is necessary to define subtle, but significant, distinctions. But these real facts are not presented in the CNN article. So, is it really "all "we need to know"?

THAT deliberately constructed impression is followed with a succession of "Factual" blurbs, each constructed to guide and create and propagandize the message first presented as "... what (and basically all) you need to know ..." in order to form the opinion that "we" want you to have.

"Factual" but not truthful.

The old school term for it was "slanted writing", a common tool of propagandists, and depends upon the ignorance of the reader for it's effectiveness.

LOL!!!.... convenient or inconvenient as it may be,

... you are still avoiding the central question of truthfulness vs. the CNN use of the "slanted writing."

Maybe your preference for the conclusion presented in the slanted writing is the real inconvenience when truthfulness becomes the issue.

How inconvenient are these dates, Ken, considering that Robinson was consecrated in 2003?

November 4, 2006 - The Rt. Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, Bishop of Nevada, is installed as Presiding Bishop, elected to a nine-year term, becoming the first female to head the Episcopal church nationwide.

December 17, 2006 - Eight conservative Episcopal congregations in Virginia announce their plans to leave the US Episcopal Church.

December 8, 2007 - The Diocese of San Joaquin in California votes to leave the Episcopal Church.

October 4, 2008 - The Diocese of Pittsburgh votes to leave the Episcopal Church.

November 7, 2008 - The Diocese of Quincy, Illinois votes to leave the Episcopal Church.

November 15, 2008 - The Diocese of Fort Worth votes to leave the Episcopal Church ...

The above is a response to Schori's heavy-handed rule, not Robinson's installment.

You give five Dates/Events that have occurred since Katharine Jefferts-Shori was ELECTED to be the Presiding Bishop.

All five are specifically about factions LEAVING The Episcopal Church. Yet, not one of these five reportings provides ANY detail for WHY those factions have done what they did!

Your insistence that "Schori's heavy-handed rule, not Robinson's installment" is the the cause for the "response."

A laughable lie, on your part. Obviously this is something that you don't know, any more than the CNN reporter knew as anything that you might actually "need" to know.

They were all different. I know personally of the impetus and motivations for the Diocese of Quincy, and you are wrong. The election of Jefferts-Schori was simply 'salt in the wound' for them.

As for the rest of the Dates/Events, you make the "chicken out to have arisen without having been an egg, first."

You are not yet in the stadium. But, keep on trying to scalp a ticket, Joe.

Was it just a coincidence that they ALL left AFTER Schori was elected?

Oh, I'm sure that they fed on each other. In my own Diocesem I was present when our bishop at the time brought Rt. Rev. Gregory Venables to give a Sunday morning sermon.

Bad sermon. Wrong premise.

But, the issues YOU point to and the decisions that followed had much more to do with who did the electing, and how and why Rev. Kate Jefferts-Schori was elected to be PB rather than the simple fact that she was elected.

In other words, her election and acceptance of the post was the effect, not the cause.

Since then, she has done a right fine job.

A fine job gutting TEC's membership by causing a mass exodus?

Schori and Obamacare will become synonymous for electoral failure thru deception.

Incorrect conclusion. Invalid comparison.

But, one thing is sure: You have a serious personal problem with The Episcopal Church, for whatever reason - and it isn't PB KJ-S. Though you might not like seeing a woman at the head of the Church.

Even so, it's not even your Church.
