We Catholics pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary to intercede with her son Jesus, on our behalf. You think Jesus will listen to you faster than HIS Blessed Mother ? Saints belong to a VERY exclusive club we all wish to join. We Catholics learned that It's never too soon to make friends who can 'put-in-a good-word' for you. For those who wish to understand look at it this way, we believe in the Bible, but its still only a book, Christ LIVES, as does His Church, and we interact with all those who live in HIS church, dead or alive !
The Catholic beliefs about Mary are the main reason I left the church. Just being honest.

When we die we don't go to a God who never knew us, UNLESS we chose to ignore Him. Christ invites us all, and quietly seeks every opportunity to awaken our hearts and minds to his presence. He is with us now and always. When one who believed, and prayed,(Spoke & Listened) to God throughout their life dies Christ promised, " He That Died and believed In Me, yet Shall he Live, and he who lived and believed in Me shall never die." I choose to imagine my life, and the lives of all the good people I lost to death continue after my death, IF I live Up To That promise. It is thus "In God We Trust, as our national motto says. We all need to live our lives by that standard as well.

Then you never understood the issue. Mary is a major reason I believe specifically in the Catholic Church. Ask for the wisdom and I'm betting you will find it. Without Mary, there is no Jesus. Just the opposite of Eve who chose to disobey God, Mary chose of her own free will to embrace God's assigned task. That is why we Catholics call her "Blessed" ! It is Mary who makes God's son Human as well as God, Emmanuel means God amongst us! Mary made that possible, and all that flows from her selfless actions.

Saints are indeed our friends, so the answer to your question is absolutely yes.

Ed...I was raised in the RCC and, for various reasons, left it as a teen. One of those reasons was that I was scolded whenever I asked about things that confused me. Thanks for your straight-forward and sensible answers.

Sleryl, jealous that you're no role model to anyone, and that nobody calls you a Saint?

Respect a Institution that has existed for 1000 years, and an Institution that in todays world continues to provide moral guidelines, otherwise we would be completely over run my Gays today in the western world.

ohh and Sheryl, the KEYS maybe underneath the Bed.

All but false religion.
All you high-and-mighty so-called "Christians" remind me of the Pharisees whom Jesus rebuked. May God help you learn some humility and stop judging others.

I am a devout Christian, and I agree with you. I've said for so long that those Christians making the most noise (ugly noise) do not represent the majority of Christianity. No wonder people resent "us".

I'm trying! Anyone who knows me from here knows that I'm continually "searching" for truth. I'm a former Catholic, but left the church years ago because of many serious doubts. I'm not trying to offend you, I'm just not sure of many important things.
Sheryl: If you are searching, as you say you are: All you have to do is accept Jesus Christ for who he is; believe and trust in Jesus; believe he died on the cross for YOUR sins; accept him in your heart as your LORD and SAVIOR; repent and confess your sins to him. After this, thank the Lord and you are BORN-AGAIN!!!!From here on in, the Holy Spririt will work within you and your eyes will be opened to the truth.

Oh, shut up. Why the hell would I want to be called a saint? You're against gays? I'm not -- God loves them too. IF they are to be judged, it's not gonna be by ME; I'll leave that up to God.

Diane, do you have any idea how many times I've done just what you suggested? And nothing happens. Peace to you and I thank you for your kind post.

I know that Mary was an exceptionally good person. I just don't think the over-veneration of her in the RC church is proper.

Sheryl is asking honest questions and all you can do is make snide and belittling comments? Wow. That's helpful. That's Christ-like. That's edifying.
Yeah, right!

Thanks, jan! Aurel(whatever) is just ignorant. If he/she were truly educated, he wouldn't talk the way he does. He (she?) is too stupid to affect me. Thanks again :)

Declaring a person a Saint is nothing more than the vatican recognizing that a person has lived an exemplary life and that people are to imitate his/her life.
But that's beside the point. Why do catholics pray to them?

Yeah, but not appointed by someone claiming to be the spiritual mediator of men, replacing Christ on earth. Do priests have their own spiritual army? Aren't those who believe and are following Jesus Christ teaching, rightly to be called Jesus army? But what's behind the RCC's priest appointing saints, saints for whose army?

Well, I agree with you. I think it is arrogant to say this or that person is a saint. Best let God decide those things.
