So he's anti-gay because he opposed the redefinition of marriage. Yet, you can't let it go without implying that he is probably gay.
Hmmm...that makes anti-sense.
Well, if the christians hadn't started the grand ole tradition of redefining marriage every hundred years ... you could have a case there.

Surely you recall the old Francis the Talking Mule movies with Donald O'conner? They were made in the 40's and are on TNT on occasion. They are about a mule that would only talk to Donald, a forerunner of Mr. Ed. I think that is a PERFECT name for a new jack ass pope.

Are you saying that Donald O'Connor had gay bestialist sex with that Talking Mule?

That's a pretty far stretch, podnuh~! Yeah, well, gay or not, if that mule could really talk & tell you, he'd rather have been like Frank Zappa, when he found out his name WASn't "Francis" on his birth certificate, said @ least he knew his REAL Father loved him, and not in that "funny" way, eh?

I'm reminded of an old saying, "The more things change, the more they remain the same". New Pope, same sh*t. We just have to go on with changing things in the U.S. We already know the Catholic Church will fight us, same as before. And we will fight back, same as before.

NEVER before in all of American history has a POTUS sent a delegation to The Vatican for ANY reason !
In fact, until just a couple of decades ago, for well more than 100 years, federal law ABSOLUTELY PROHBITED diplomatic relations with The Vatican because doing so IS A VIOLATION OF THE FIRST AMENDMENT !!!

Get your facts straight before showing everyone that you're a moron. Your beloved George Bush sent Jeb Bush to the coronation of Pope Nixon II (the disgraced Pope who just quit).

As far as I know, the Roman Catholic Church is the ONLY [major] religion that requires its clergy to be chaste and celibate (the 2 words mean differnt things).(Anyone here know of any other religins at all that require this ?).

And this requirment is only of recent vintage in the RCC's history. In the past, the popes were married and fathered children, and the ame for all of the other RCC clergy. Also, this is NOT always enforced and there are a small number of RCC priests who are married, and who have fathered children, with the RCC's blessing.

And this relatively recent requirment directly contradicts the bible's command to be "fruitful and multiply". And I think a good case can be made that this requirment has indirectly led to the widespread sexual abuse scandals, that not only have obviously gone on for decades, but most probably for centuries since this policy was introduced.

And this requirement can be overturned by teh pope at any given time, simply by his decree.

The chastity and celibacy requirments were one of the many things that led many early Protestant leaders to begin the "Protestant Reformation".

It dates back to the bishops appointed by the Apostles.

The first council of Nicaea reenforced clerical celibacy.

pretty sure it was only the Popes that were terribly corrupt. But, yes there have been times when enforcement was lax and clergy were less that obedient.

Except for the fact that Jesus encourages it Matthew 19:

“Not all men can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to receive this, let him receive it.”

It would seem that way. However, rates of abuse are as high or higher for non-celibate clergy. When you look at sexual abuse in public schools the rates are much higher.

You are correct celibacy is a matter of discipline in the Church and could be changed. Those men who have already ordained would still be bound to celibacy.

Here we go the same old tired BS of redefining marriage, great excuse to deny others rights. Funny how this wonderful new pope is already being asked about his silence during the 'dirty war' in Argentina, guess he was to busy fighting the redefinition of marriage or maybe he was making sure there were enough castrati for the choir?
