from OUPblog:

"Besides matters of social justice, the big issue facing Catholicism is 'the sexual question'... John Paul II and Benedict XVI wound up fixating on matters of authority and sexuality, in an extended reaction to the ’60s ..."

Not according to the Catholic News Service.

A report by the bishops’ National Review Board on the causes of the RCC sex scandal revealed that the majority of young victims abused by Catholic clergy were males, signifying that the church crisis was indeed characterized by homosexual behavior. The bishops’ report was based on the first John Jay study of the Catholic clerical abuse of minors. The study determined that 81 percent of those abused by priests were male, and the second study showed an increase to about 90 percent.

The PROBLEM is sexual child abuse. The sex of either the victim or the perp is a non-issue.

It is certainly true that all child abuse is serious and should be dealt with as such but it is not irrelevant to an understanding of the crime that 90% of the victims are boys molested by men.

Then why did the RCC -- which is having a severe priest shortage -- decide to ban men with strong homosexual inclinations from entering their seminaries after the John Jay results?

There is no mystery about Pope Francis. He is a liberal theology steeped in liberation theology and social theology. I doubt he understands that gospel. I have yet to hear him say that Jesus died for the sins of the world and that we saved by faith in him -- or even the Catholic version that we are saved by the virtue of grace which enables you to do sufficient good works to get to heaven, and failing to do you, you get a second chance to finish purging your sins in purg-atory (sic). We know him to follow traditional modern Catholic theology -- hastening the sainthood of two previous deceased popes (are they in purgatory now unstil sainthood springs them?), offering indulgences instead of forgiveness of sins, and the terrible, anti-scriptural practice of forbidding priests to marry. He gives a breath of fresh air in his endeavor to deal with the gay culture of the Vatican (while excommunicating gay lay people!), the money laundering that is the Vatican Bank, and his pedophile practicing priests and pedophile protecting bishops. There is not mystery about Pope Francis. He is the most transparent pope in modern times.
