how are you going to call someone a dumbass and claim to be a follower of Jesus? can you direct me to the biblical scripture where he insults other people with obscenities?
Simple. I'm NOT a follower of Jesus, I'm an agnostic. And I only insult morons and abusive idiots.

There's no list of special qualifications to be Pope, ANY Cardinal or Bishop is easily "qualified" by experience, knowledge of Church ritual, etc. to be Pope.
if any Bishop is qualified, then all others are also legitimate choices. again you have not provided any specific reasons why an African would qualify above all the other applicants. apparently you have some socio-political agenda to force a demographic minority into the position to satisfy your interests, with a clever slant that any who oppose are racist. your kind always pulls that race card from the bottom of the deck with dirty dealing.

i will say this again, so get it through your thick head, if the guy is thee most qualified person for the job then he deserves the job. if someone else is more qualified than him, then he does not deserve to get the job just because he is African.

so as an agnostic, you dont even have an involved issue in this discussion, you are just trolling the board to hurl out cheap insults and get your chat room courage high. since you so readily disrespect and insult others in free speech, it doesnt say much for your opinions on an ethical moral issue when you act agressive and immoral toward other discussion participants.

On the contrary. I've forced you to admit that there's a large pool, including Africans, qualified for the Papacy. You have yet to show us why an African should NOT be Pope, or why recogizing any qualified Church official from Africa as Pope would be a bad idea.

Instead, you whine and cry about "race cards" which only YOU are playing and "qualifications" you've already admitted don't exist.

Admit it, and please be honest - you DO NOT WANT AN AFRICAN TO BE POPE.

There, doesn't that feel better?:)

More evidence that you can't mount an intelligent opinion or defend your beliefs about the Papacy, whatever they are. You simply want a closed echo chamber where only those who believe as you do are allowed to take part.

Get lost, punk.

No reason a woman COULDN'T, but with no male priests, bishops, archbishops, or cardinals, there's no path to the Papacy for women, unfortunately.
To them God is DEFINITELY a male, and the Church a patriarchy.
Kinda funny that anyone would know that God is a male or female or other. Maybe the church would be better if it was run by females. Don't belong to any church so i guess i'm going to a nonexistant hell anyway.

Wiccans (Pagans) see both a male AND a female deity, and certainly have women very much involved in worship. It's one of the fastest-growing religions of the time, in fact.

And they don't send anyone to Hell, either...:)

my belief is that if there were ten people in a room all trying to get the pope title, then the job should go to the most qualified, whether that guy be red yellow black or white, which ever guy was most qualified should get the job title.

the topic was titled "Why the next pope should be African". while that may just be a general support for the idea, the point remains the next pope should not be any given nationality, it should be based on the best job resume. the topic title can be interpreted as meaning they should get the position because they are black. that alone is insufficient cause and resembles eeo minority quota demographics.

Among other things, Pope Benedict argued that Africa has become the spiritual lungs which will awaken the sleeping churches of the West, and that Africa should also become the center for the renewal of Catholic thought, philosophy and theology.
Pope Benedict thus sees African Catholicism and African Catholics as well placed to lead Christianity to the future. The election of an African pope will no doubt vindicate Africa's place as the new center of Catholicism and world Christianity.
At a time when the pews and churches of Europe and North America are empty and many dioceses are declaring bankruptcy, the churches in Africa are filled beyond capacity every Sunday. At a time when European church celebrations are seen to be too formal, too medieval and ritualistic, and lacking in joy and flavor, church celebrations in Africa are very enthusiastic, celebratory, communal and joyful.
There is always something new and surprising in many African churches on Sunday, reflecting the unpredictable innovation and openness of African religious beliefs and practices to the dynamist of the Holy Spirit. As one White Canadian who attended our African Mass in Toronto told me recently: African Catholicism rocks!
Whereas there is a frightening drop in vocations to the priesthood and religious life in North America and Europe, religious vocations are booming in Africa and African clerics are all over the Western world helping in the re-evangelization of the descendants of the Western missionaries who brought Christianity to Africa.

so your answer is to give a global organization to the least technologically and socially advanced location on the map. isnt that like giving liberal welfare recipients control of the check book. cant you see how they are just going to use that to further their own geographic and economical interests.

tell ya what, when they get hteir act together, and go to the effort of creating a global economy then they can have some say, but the people who actually create the infrastructure should not just hand over leadership to those who have not contriubted as much. thats welfare entitlement. i breath therefore i deserve the same as those who make.

That's what I mean. You're trying to judge who should be Pope based on your own ignorant right-wing bigotry about the U.s. economy and social structure.

You're not fit to choose a local dogcatcher, much less a Pope.

i never said i dont want him to be african.
just that he shouldnt get the job just because of that.

whoever is the most qualified should get it.
if the african applicant is most qualified, then he should get it. if he isnt the most qualified, then the person who is should get it. that holds true for all the applicants.
