He should have refused to receive them.
That reasoning is a bit problematic, is it not?

This woman was part of a Ugandan delegation the Pope received. The Pope is head of a sovreign state (Vatican). It was a diplomatic visit by my reading.

He didn't endorse them nor their politcal positions, inasmuch ss the US can and does receive delations from nations diplomatically without inferring endorsement.

The author here just took misinformation and extrapolated it in service to a conclusion she had already formed.

Cited in the article itself:

http://www.zenit.org/rssenglish-36233

"Father Lombardi stressed Church teaching on the death penalty, as indicated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The Vatican spokesman also clarified that "relations with the delegation were not outside the normal framework and there was no blessing."

"The group of Ugandan delegates greeted the Pope, as did many other persons who attended the audience with the Pope, which in no case is a specific sign of approval of the actions or proposals of Ms. Kadaga,"

For an example, President Obama proffers public policy at odds with Church teaching, but the Pope would most certainly receive him diplomatically.

When he does, rationally one would not expect a fusillade of commentary insisting that the Pope is endorsing President Obama's policy statements.

Funny that you managed to leave out the ugly parts of the Catholic Church history that TORTURED and MURDERED people for so-called "heresy" in past centuries, Knutter.
I guess you would prefer that everyone forget the church-based TERRORISM campaigns, such as the Inquisition and Malleus Maleficarum, wouldn't you. Too bad for you, that isn't going to happen.
By your logic then, you must regard Ugandan policy now only in light of past positions that did not call for harm to homosexuals. At one time in the past, they didn't call for the death penalty for gay people, so you have to disregard anything they say or do to the contrary now.

That's the standard you're holding for the Church, so at least be consistent.

I found it amusing that all the people piling on the Pope here took the word of the Uganadan press without second thought, all while taking great pains to tell us how unenlightened the Pope is.

A nation being led to some extent by people who advocate capital punishment for homosexuality somehow has a press whose reportage can be taken at face value?

Brilliant.

With all due respect, you're in a hole on this one-best to stop digging.

Man, are you delusional. Face reality for once.
The "reality" is that the Pope didn't bless anyone.

Now what?

I think the handle "Bubba Cooder" tells us everything we need here.

I'm Catholic and don't have dual citizenship.

The Pope lives in Vatican City. All Catholics do not.

"The 'reality' is that the Pope" CAN'T "bless anyone".

He can but ask.

The rest is just medieval buffoonery and handwaving.

Then you're telling me the article is of no substance even if the Pope DID bless Kadaga?

Why all the responses then? If he can't confer a blessing to anyone, why would you care if he perfomed "medieval buffoonery and handwaving" unto Kadaga?

Can't work both sides of the street, snyper.

Read a Bible and put end to your ignorance. Are you aware in your ignoarance that it was Christ himself that destoyed Sodom not even being able to find 10 righteous men within it's walls?
Hey - I've read plenty of fairy tales in my day! PROVE the gospels are authentic - they were not even written by Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

Every educated person knows the true authors were Sonny & Cher, John Lennon & Yoko Ono.

Dan, just what does a blessing do?

And what makes you think the pope has any more power than anyone else? He can't/won't even protect little kids!

The "blessing" is irrelevant delusion.

The politics of the situation definitely is not!

LOL! Hey - the pope would NEVER protect pedophiles! Those kids that were victimized in some way must have provoked the rapists, right? Your church would never let any harm come to its adherents - it's watched over 24/7.

Damn lying little brats.
