Quite frankly he ought to ask all the Cardials to step down temprarily whiile there is a compete investigation and disclosure of all information about sexual abuse in all countries. Considering according to church reports that 4% of priests have abused children. This translates as 18,000 globally, and that s a modest figure. And that does not include the brothers who have had closer contact with children , and there s a lot of cases which will emerge.

..... As I keep repeating, the victims and/or their parents should have gone to the police AT THE TIME and laid charges against all lawbreakers. By keeping it secret they may be guilty of obstructing justice, permitting lawbreakers to continue and continue.
..... In many countries a person is deemed to be innocent of all charges until they have been convicted in a court of law.

The Roman Catholic Church still wields a lot of moral persuasion in many countries of the world. If an official of the Church says you'll be damned to hell if you tell about a cleric's crime, many still believe this. This continues the culture of silence.
I agree that the Roman Catholic Church needs a complete reckoning of crimes committed by its clergy, be it pedophilia, fraud, embezzelment, or whatever.
We are past the era as human beings where we blindly follow the clergy because they are "learned" and we are the "simple" faithful. The printing press took care of that. Martin Luther and others started a reformation which continues today to divide present and formerly "Christian" nations. The hard heartedness and headedness of the Roman Catholic Church is responsible for much of this reformation.
We may be on the brink of another reformation within the Roman Catholic C7092hurch.
