I suppose this indicates some tiny kink in the armor of the RCC. But seriously? The bishops will survey their priests, who will tell the bishops what the bishops have been telling them about marriage. Neither the convents nor the parishioners will be surveyed, and their volunteered opinions will not be considered. So the synod will confirm unanimously that the RCC's teaching on same-sex marriage is correct and in synch with the local diocese.

No, "chink" in the armor. "Kink" in the confessional booth and in the parochial school.

No charge.

I tend to agree with what author and Vatican expert John Thavis told the newspaper.

"It is telling the pope and the Vatican what they already know. But it’s what the Vatican in the past has not wanted to hear. It’s strategic, but it’s also a genuine effort to find out what the voice of the church really is on this. It’s very much Pope Francis who wants less of a top-down model - the bishops preaching the rules and doctrine down to the faithful - and more of a dialogue."

I don't think we will see sweeping changes in dogma but I do think we will see an effort to re-brand the RCC into a more compassionate church.

After all both OT and NT carry the same message:

Leviticus 19:18
New International Version (NIV)
18 “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

Matthew 22:36-40
New International Version (NIV)
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied:“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it:‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Note he said previously that female clergy would not be so much as discussed by the RCC...and we see he wasn't lying about that.
