I've always been a strong critic of the excesses of capitalism, evident in cases like the disaster in Bangladesh recently. I don't oppose capitalism completely but I believe it is an unjust system that must be tempered with government regulation and private charity and social justice, just as socialism is an unjust system that must be tempered with personal freedom and religious freedom. I've been more vocal on this point than my predecessor, but these principles have been the foundation of Catholic teaching on the subject since modern capitalism emerged in the 19th century. See Rerum Novarum for more info.

..... Given that the popes are supposed to do what Jesus wants, why is it that so many ask what the current pope hates or likes, instead of asking what Jesus hated and liked?

In Jesus' time the churches were artificial "families", with all members having handed their properties to the management for the use of all per Acts 2 and Acts 4. Members didn't have, nor need, money and outsiders called all members "The Poor". Poor meant members, NOT non-members who were short of money.

The Pope does not hate Capitalism, only the greet and misdirected desires that are associated with it. He is certainly not like Obama who wants to destroy the free market system.

Who gives a flying fu@k what the pope thinks. He is part of a system that has hid child molesters for centuries. He should be held accountable for all of the catholic church's past atrocities.

..... NO! The pope is responsible only for what he himself has done, but he should expel permanently from the community every person who did not follow the requirements, especially clergy who took vows and did not obey.
