The Church of England in Early America
Although the Church of England commanded the loyalties of a great many churchgoers in early America, its history has received relatively little treatment from historians-especially compared with the attention lavished on the Puritans.Full Story

The article provides some interesting observations about the early Anglicans in the Colonies of the Americas.
Little is said about the American Revolution. But, this turn of Independence is also what defined the birth of PECUSA, now TEC.
We truly disaffiliated from the Anglican Church. Then, some 40 years later in the early decades of the 1800's following the War of 1812, we began the process of reintegration with the Anglican Communion, reaffirming our Anglican roots.
Still, today, TEC retains the powerful independence achieved in the American Revolution. It is a good thing. Our religious affiliation to the Anglican Communion is NOT an acceptance of a hierarchical dictatorship through the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Instead, it is a partnership across Church boundaries which acknowledges a common Faith and shared historical Traditions.
The Episcopal Church stands on its own in the Teachings of Christ Jesus and helps to lead the Way of Christ in the vanguard of Christian ethics and the rights of the individual to find expression and illumination in personal Faith.

Wow. And people call the Catholic Church arrogant.

Why should that be considered as "arrogance?" It is a fact.
I wrote that we help to lead the Way. I think this is true. I did not write that we stand alone or that we are led by a Presiding Bishop who cannot err or that all other Christian efforts are misguided. And that IS what the Roman Catholics have held to be true of their pope and Majisterium.
But, then again, people who thought they were in positions of authority believed that Christ Jesus was arrogant, too.
So, since we openly profess to and actively work to follow His Teachings, I guess we can qualify for criticism under the mantle of His Arrogance.
