You make a common logical error. The religious groups killed on the BASIS of their religion; the "atheists" you note used killing to amass power.

Compared to atheism yes....even Islamic Jihadists cant hold a cadel to them.. Iran is a Islamic state & so is Saudi Arabia. Woud you rather live their or the former Soviet Union, or Mao's China or Pol Pots Cambodia?
And wich regime is more likley to take your life or stick you in prison?

That's not true. a "religion" can be based on something other than an Omnisienct Being. Many theist-based religions specifically arn against worshipping "false gods", such as money and other material things.

I submit that "socialism" as an ideal, good or bad, can be worshipped as much as, or more than, any "god".

To people like Stalin and his followers and "fellow travellers", "socialism" was, and IS their "god". A false god, an Evil god.

Much like Democrats worship FDR, The Kennedys, and The Obamaniac. Same thing.

I wouldn't say they "generally" are, they ABSOLUTELY ARE.(That's one reason I have 4 cats I adopted form the streets, including a handicaped cat.)
Animals live and act according to the nature God blessed them with. They don't start wars. They don't commit murder.
That's why I'm a strict vegetarian.
KILL PEOPLE ! NOT ANIMALS !
You're right and I couldn't agree with you more. Congrats on your warm heart :

Oh, but FaFoxy, I must disagree with the part about killing people.

First of all, socialism is an economic model; the countries you describe were totalitarian. If you wish to describe totalitarianism as a religion, then you break the entire concept of religion.

Power can be an obsession, but it is not a supernatural force or philosophy. People weren't killed to glorify power, but simply to attain it.

When people worship a state, such as a Nazi state or a communist state, then that's a religion. When people worship a dictator, that's religion.

Neither populace worshiped the nazi state nor the communist state; they had no power to change it; that's what a totalitqrian government is. People don't worship such dictators; they fear them.

The fact that the Roman Catholic Church is responsible for mass murders is obvious and beyond question. Or are you a Holocause Denier too ?
Hitler called Christianity a "Jewish mistake". How does the extermination of millions by an atheist (possibly neo-pagan) become a Catholic responsibility?

An organization that is down on gay people, yet has more than their fair share gay clergy.

Maybe the church should start at their nearest parish instead of San Fran.

Do you mean there are no local parishes in SF?

Not down on homosexuals, just down in sex out side of marriage. Also against redefining marriage to mean what ever a person wants it to mean.

Since the RCC has no business trying to make policy for all americans and has absolutely no right to define legal marriage, it's really just some nazi in a dress interfering with american law.

Every person and organization in the USA has a right to express opinion and attempt to influence others on issues such as this.
nazi in a dress? You must be referring to the Holy Father whom the Anti Defamation League praised:
"We welcome the new Papacy of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger. From the Jewish perspective, the fact that he comes from Europe is important, because he brings with him an understanding and memory of the painful history of Europe and of the 20th Century experience of European Jewry."

You may not have noticed, but the pope doesn't live here. Americans pushing the vatican's ideals are no different from the muslims trying to push sharia law. in this country, the constitution--not the bible, not the pope, not the koran--is the guiding structure for our laws.

Evidently, they haven't noticed the pope's propensity for totalitarian approaches to matters of faith. Most popes in the past century have at least been open to listening to their clergy and to science; bennie has hunkered down and gives orders. This approach continues to alienate more and more american catholics, which is a good thing.

His sensitivity toward jews is rather unlikely, coming from a hitler youth graduate.

Regardless, he has no say in our laws. Perhaps the next step is to make sure he is politically classified as a hostile foreign leader, which would make his interference in our legal system far more difficult.

Cathoholic, you know I like and respect you. I'm well aware the church and most other religions forbid sex outside of marriage. But the reality is that most couples, even very religious ones, DO have sex before they get married. And of course they all find some way to justify it.

I can't argue with that.

But should we race towards the bottom? I would like to drive to work doing 100 mph some mornings. On occasion there are some people I would like to kick in the head (including my own teenage progeny at regular intervals).

In the end we try and overcome our fallen nature and do the good things while abstaining from the bad.

Society's laws have meaning. They help to form our conscience.

You have just exposed yourself as morally bankrupt by comparing love given freely between to individuals with crimes with involuntary victims.

Nobody should take any moral advice from you.
