One must be awfully insecure and have precious little faith in his followers if one believes that reading a book can make them change their fundamental beliefs.

The movie is about telling children there is no God. Children are impressionable, I would not take a child to see this movie.

I don't want to see a movie about telling children there is no God.

I'm more than a bit disappointed in Ms. Kidman. She escaped the insanity of Scientology and returned to her Catholic faith. Seems a bit strange that she would embrace a role like this.

All of my grown children believe in God. Your question is moot.

And if they had any doubts they would be frightened to death to share with you.

LOL! If you only knew my kids. No, they have a greater fear and awe of the Lord than they do of me.
They know that their Dad is big pushover, but not God.

"His Dark Materials centers on a world run by the sinister and dictatorial Magisterium, a force that suppresses free will, demands conformity and punishes anyone who deviates from the norm."

Sounds like today's reality to me!

As a church, the Catholic Church doesn't rate the name church - it is indeed a cult. Even its own members don't listen to the gay priests and higher ups anymore. Eventually this cult as all cults will be gone. Some will eventually find out that even worshiping a rock gets them as much as worshiping the pope.

The Catholics are beginning to realize that they don't have to take orders from a perverted higheracy of men walking around in fancy robes with pointed hats. They are starting to recognize that they need only be subserviant to God. As such they need not fear seeing any kind of movie. These movies only help to strengthen the true christians faith.

Jesus said "Peter you are the Rock ,and the forces of evil will not prevail against my Church. That covers the evil forces within or outside the Church.Furthermore, there are two Types of man tne animal man (man whithout faith) man who believe that we are not sons of God but brothers of animals, and the spiritual man.Is up to you to keep climbing trees or go according to GOD Commands. Thanks Mr. Donahue for your good works.

I'll definitely see it and if I like the books (which I'm going to go look for today) I'll send the series to all my nieces and nephews.

It looks like a fun movie. Talking polar bears! Yay!

Spirit Connection,
Why would you think this work of fiction would strengthen the faith of True Christians? What a strange Protestant Sect you must belong to.

Do you make up your beliefs as you go along or base them on the New Testament Scriptures that the Roman Catholic Church declared to be True.

Also the Catholic Church has been in existence for nearly 2000 years, which is at least 1500 years longer than any Protestant Sect.

Centainly the Catholic Church has had its problems in recent times as it has always had problems. But the likes of EWTN and the Catholic League are surely helping to overcome these problems.

You crazy god lovers/fearers crack me up. Like those nutter muslims upset over a stupid cartoon, your insecurity in your own worldview is laid bare by this reaction to a stupid movie. Grow the eff up!! Although I will admit that is a very tall order for people inclined to believe in childish fairy tales. Man invented god people. Please wake up to that reality before you take the entirety of humanity over the cliff.

I will avoid this movie at all costs, and tell everyone I know not to see this either.
I hope it fails.

To "a mom" and other

Wow, just how insecure are you people? What are you frightened of? Letting your children hear more than one point of view? Allowing them to come to their own decision when they are mature enough? Not being able to indoctrinate them with your own version of a man-made fairy tale? Worried they might suddenly become gay because they have lost their faith (well, we couldn't have that could we)? Concerned that they might suddenly discover that religion and faith can be bad for your health? Think they might at some point discover that the Catholic Church's ban on the use of condoms actually contributes to the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases? Need I go on?

Well, probably, I would have to, because you just don't get it and the reason you don't get it is that you are exactly like your ChurcH and all other religions - incapable of being rational and scared to death of a loss of power - in your case, losing power over your children, in the church's case, loss of political and financial power.

You're right, children are impressionable, so what gives you the right to choose their religious faith for them and indoctrinate them in your ways. There is no such thing as a Catholic child, a Muslim child etc, only children who are respected and those who are not. If you indoctrinate your children and do not allow them choice, then you do not respect them. After all, if your God is so omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and omnibenevolent, what do you have to worry about.

Oh, and to Rob, is that supposed to be some Christian virtue you are espousing here? I do not agree with the film so "I hope it fails"? Very charitable of you, such a benevolent attitude. Such comments are clearly what make your religion, like all others, so tolerant and loving. The truth is that religion breeds hate and division, always has, always will.
