I did read both the Pullman novels and the Narnia chronicles.
I thought they were both very well written stories. I preferred the Narnia books as these told of hope and righteousness. Although the children died at the end (I did think the ending of the Narnia chroicles was clumsy in that respect) the message of the books was not a gloomy one. The message told of fellowship, reunitings, companionship. The Pullman books were not so happy. Reading them made me feel troubled inside. I felt sad and gloomy afterwards. The Pullman world is a vast, lonely place. You are nothing more than dust. I think people are affected by the books they read. Books and music, both affect your moods, your emotions and therefore your well being. As a writer, I would recommend the Pullman books. As a Christian, I would not. |

Children have no rights? Molest them or beat them...see how many rights they DO have. Oh wait, you believe in the catholic church...I hear they believe HIGHLY in molestation... |

but that's what the world is like. they were fantastic literary books but if all we read is messages of hope, and love, and block out everything that's evil, taht's not much of a faith to be honest. that's denying reality, and true faith is when you can see things how they really are, and still believe. i thought pullman's books were fascinating, both as a reader, AND as a christian :) |

no catholics and the pope are the ones against God |

Apparently we live in a society that allows free speech as a right. You on the other hand live in a society which allows free speech as the right of all citizens unless you live in Tennessee where apparently 'all citizens' is qualified. God bless America, the land of the free!!!!!!. |

Nope!!! If everyone read their OWN Bibles and saw what it taught, they would see that the Catholic Church does not teach the scriptures as it is written. They teach it as they see fit and most Catholics are just ignorant enough to take their "priest's" word for it and not investigate it themselves. The Bible teaches we are all priest (Rev. 1:6) and there is only ONE Father, and that is God, not a man (I Cor 8:6). Also, the Pope is not supposed to be married, Catholics claim Peter as the first Pope, well Peter was disqualified because he was married, at least he had a mother-in-law (Matt 8:14-15). |
