"I know some elem kids who love the book and can't understand what adults are upset about" . Your premise would seem to be 'Kids know best'. Reminds Bro. Rat of the old quip: "Ask you children questions now while they still know everything !". By your paradigm kids would be raising themselves. You'll excuse us if we don't trust completely in the discernment of elementary school children. . The DataRat fides viva . |

It makes little sense. By condemning the movie the Pope is indirectly saying that the books attack the Catholic church.
I've read the first two books. It's all fantasy. Because they use certain terms that could possibly be connected to the church doesn't mean that the books are condemning the church. The books use many other terms that refer to other present groups indirectly, you don't hear these groups crying about being attacked. The Pope is himself creating his own problem. Sometimes having an enemy, even if imaginary, helps one muster the troops for a fight against enemy that doesn't really exist. It's a question of power. |

'I've read the first two books. It's all fantasy." . The movie promotes paganism... fantasy or not. Mr. Fart giving it ~his~ nihil obstat is all the more reason to view it as aberrant ! . The DataRat Theology Police . |

A helluva lot more than you do, young lady. At least he doesn't sit on the internet encouraging people to do inane things that are mindless and without merit, like masturbation as you have. He's a highly degreed man and he does plenty to help and benefit the world. He's been through trials and tribulations in his life which you will never know or experience (hopefully). Tell me, what school did you attend or what knocks in life have you gone through that have brought you to this highest pinnacle in life that you sit on the internet bashing the Pope and telling people to masturbate to their hearts delight? Am I supposed to be impressed? I'm not! I only feel pity for you. |

I would think the vatican had better things to worry about...like the CATHOLIC priests who like little boys TOO much...

If people say that they are enjoying the book as a fantasy then why not just believe them?
It's just self-aggrandizement to force your opinion of the book down other people's throats. It also looks pathetic to people of a more sympathetic mindset. I read it as a fantasy and enjoyed it as such. If you didn't then good for you. |

The concept that the Vatican would even bother to comment on this movie is ludicrous.
Anyone who actually feels threatened by this film has a problem. Don't see it or take your kids to it if you don't want to. Given the long list of legitimate problems needing support in this world it amazes me that a fantasy movie gets this much attention. |

Great....more culture war BS. No one wins these.
Don't like the movie? Don't watch it. But don't throw your views at others and expect them to not have their own views. I got Christmas presents to buy, classes to teach, and a 9 to 5. Time to see movies is just not available. Maybe when it hits Blockbuster shelves I'll rent it. It's fiction. Not reality. I'll appreciate it as such. As for the Pope, he's entitled to his opinions. But the over-sensitivity of the church is not becoming. |

You'll excuse us if we don't trust completely in the discernment of elementary school children. . The DataRat fides viva You're reaching here Rat. She did not say kids should raise themselves. She said kids have read the book or had it read to them and found it entertaining. Plus the Pope giving family advice is a bit ridiculous. Experience is a better teacher than theology. Best source for parenting ideas and advice is other parents. |

It isn't about the movie. It's about the author, and his statement that he wants to kill God in the eyes of children. Christians are not going to go see a movie, knowing that some of the profits will go to a man such as this. Who cares if the movie was toned down to suit the producers, it's about the author and his aethiest beliefs. It's a box office bomb and rightly so.

"You're reaching here Rat. She did not say kids should raise themselves. She said kids have read the book or had it read to them and found it entertaining." . In context of the discussion regarding the paganism of the movie, she was setting kids up as the final authority. You'll recall her very next sentence was what-does- the-pope-know. So, she clearly contrasted kid's opinions vs. adult opinions. And children find it "entertaining" counteracts any objection a grown-up might have ! Raticus is no fan of the Pope. But neither can we allow children to have the final say on what they read and view. . Your Pal, The DataRat . |

The movie is an atack against Catholicism. And against God as well. I'm glad the Vatican is flexing its muscles, this will KILL any hopes of this movie or any successive ones of being profitable. Thank God we still have some real men in the world. God bless the Pope!
