It makes little sense. By condemning the movie the Pope is indirectly saying that the books attack the Catholic church.
I've read the first two books. It's all fantasy. Because they use certain terms that could possibly be connected to the church doesn't mean that the books are condemning the church. The books use many other terms that refer to other present groups indirectly, you don't hear these groups crying about being attacked.
The Pope is himself creating his own problem. Sometimes having an enemy, even if imaginary, helps one muster the troops for a fight against enemy that doesn't really exist. It's a question of power.

Anyone who actually feels threatened by this film has a problem.

You're reaching here Rat. She did not say kids should raise themselves. She said kids have read the book or had it read to them and found it entertaining.
Plus the Pope giving family advice is a bit ridiculous. Experience is a better teacher than theology. Best source for parenting ideas and advice is other parents.

It isn't about the movie. It's about the author, and his statement that he wants to kill God in the eyes of children. Christians are not going to go see a movie, knowing that some of the profits will go to a man such as this. Who cares if the movie was toned down to suit the producers, it's about the author and his aethiest beliefs. It's a box office bomb and rightly so.

of the movie, she was setting kids up as the final
authority.

You'll recall her very next sentence was what-does-
the-pope-know. So, she clearly contrasted kid's
opinions vs. adult opinions. And children find it
"entertaining" counteracts any objection a grown-up
might have !

Raticus is no fan of the Pope. But neither can we
allow children to have the final say on what they
read and view.
