I have my reasons. The main one being that they took my 9 year old brother off in a room by himself trying to get him to join their church. I couldn't find him for an hour...it scared the crap out of me.<quoted text>
why would this scare you?

You poor, ignorant, misinformed person! HOW could what I said in ANY WAY threaten society?!? Your "do you not fear God" comment just proves my point that you Southern Baptist types truly believe that YOUR WAY is the ONLY WAY. Well, let me tell you that i am a God-fearing person. I was raised in the Southern Baptist Church and GOT OUT of that mess; God does not want us to judge and 'scream' his people into submission! He wants us to love them asnd help them in their respective times of need. I wonder how many times in your life you have heard the warnings echo from the pulpit of how sinners are going to hell and how if it's not the Baptist way, it is damnation?!? I feel sorry for people like you that feel the need to get so defensive and upset when a viewpoint other than yours is expressed. God and I are just fine! Worry about your OWN sould and keep mine out of your offering plate. Your children, by the way, will most likely rebel and turn away from you and the church if you, like most of your ilk, try to FORCEFEED them your slanted and illogical views off the world. At the risk of sounding Southern Baptist, I WILL PRAY FOR YOU! |
Thats fine, as long as you are satisfied and comfortable with your salvation I am ok, but please do not call Southern Baptist people ignorant, including myself. I did not call you ignorant or your religion. If thats how you care for people then don't comment. Thats how I testify to others and if you get offended then so be it, however if you can express your opinion on your beliefs then so can I!! |
|
I also agree with you on not screaming people into salvation. I may be Southern baptist but I do not believe in this. |
|
And another thing, I do not forcefeed my children into anything. They go to church, yes. I teach them morals, yes. But to forcefeed, no. My spouse was raised by a Southern Baptist preacher, not a problem there- no rebellion, no alcohol, no drugs: so for children to rebel because of being baptist, NO!! I was also Southern Baptist- I may have missed the "real fun" as you may think, but I wasn't a rebel!! |

I'm not sure why folks are picking on the Southern Baptists. How a person behaves is generally more a matter of personality than religious affiliation, although the latter may effect the way the former is expressed. A person who is friendly, respectful, nurturing and kind by nature will be the sort of Southern Baptist you want to invite to your backyard barbecue, whereas an overbearing Quaker or Amish follower who forces opinions on others and seeks to dominate will always be left off of the guest list, but may crash the party anyway.

People are picking on each other because (especially when it comes to religion) everyone believes what they believe is the "right" way and what everyone else believes is the "wrong" way. There is no tolerance. I have noticed, especially on here, that if you have a different view point as someone else they cut you down in any way possible. Whether that be a grammatical error or just overly-judging your opinion. People just look for reasons to bring someone else down to make themselves feel better. I believe in God, but I am not a southern baptist. I think that the atheists should have an opinion, and whoever else can have a fair opinion. In the end you deal with your own consequences and it's not up to me or anyone else to judge someone else for their belief's or opinions. |

Now it's been some time since I read the books, but I believe you have the premise wrong. In a way they kill God, sure, but you left out the part where he claims that "God" was merely the first sentient being to arise from the "Dust" described in the books. The "God" in the books was not a creator, just a creation. He was also old beyond belief and being held together virtually in a stasis shell. Ruling in his stead was the "Regent" Metatron. So when the "God" in the books is "killed" and returns to the state of being "Dust," it's more of a completion of a cycle of life than the murder of a deity. I know interpretation is a matter of individual perspective, but from your post, it seems like you missed the point. |
