An adult having sex with a 13 year old is just plain wrong. It doesn't matter that the victim asked for the case to be dismissed. It was statutory rape. Since so much time has passed and the victim doesn't want him punished, the court MAY be lenient on him but he has to face the court first.

Polanski has been hiding out in France all these years since France refuses to extradite him to the U.S. He made the mistake of traveling to a country that is apparently willing to extradite him to the U.S.

As for Fonda's remarks, the best that can be said about them is that they're irrelevant.

I'm not a Republican. I do, however respect laws. Polanski an adult had sex with a child. That is wrong. I don't care if she "consented". She was 13 years old. He had the responsibility to say no.

What good are laws if people are free to flaunt them? Polanksi should have faced the court a long time ago. Given that he was a survivor of the Holocaust and given the trauma he must have suffered when his wife was brutally murdered and given that the victim herself doesn't want him punished it is well within reason that since he has not been having sex with children since then that the courts would show him some leniency.

But he has to be responsible and face what he did in a court of law.

I don't think so. I think it had more to do with the country he was in refusing to extradite him to the U.S. France refused to extradite him. France has done that before with other people.
