Great song, great artist, but I'm still trying to figure out where that levy is ? You know the one where he drives his chevy to, only to find out it went dry.And I really would like to know who those good old boys were in Rye, the ones he drank that whiskey with. And was Franks Music really the Sacred Store? Where have you gone Don McLean???

Levys are earthen walls built up to contain flood waters along rivers and ocean coasts...Many levys are failing all over the country, due to lack of maintainance for many decades. I live in the mid west, along the confluence of several river systems. Levy breaks, cause devestation, for years if not decades, for many farms and communities...A dry levy, in times of wide spread drought...the creek, streams, rivers dry up, to lack of rainfall. And I believe the song said, the boy's were drinking whiskey&rye. The man had talent as a song writer, musiction and singer/performer...but is a spineless coward, a problem he has to deal with for life.

Why do you say that about him? Do you know him? Seems like we should just be thankful for his music.

As far as I am concerned, he made his anti- viet nam war choice, which they had their rights to do...but they did it in the wrong ways! For money or whatever, he tried to put himself up with Hanoi Jane Fonda! Their lives mean nothing to me, then or since! They consider themselves as patriots....I consider them and their ilk, as deserters to our country....either death or life ever scentences for them all. The prospects of my brothers, friends, will never come back.

Sorry Brian, I disagree...Don. M. was a druggie, first and formost. He was protected by the "Brother" instructors, along with many others, that were enrolled, and never attended Iona Collage...due only their abilities to pay the tuition fees....granted high scores for test they never took! And avoided the U.S Military Draft system. Money talks, everyone else walks, into the system. I don't have it in for Don M., especialy...he was among the hundreds or thousands, that avoided being drafted in the Viet Nam War, many from Iona Collage! Far too many graves, have been filled by others, called to duty in defence of our country, while those, with loop holes, either exaulted or slink away!
