My brother died from pancreatic cancer 4 years ago. After being diagnosed he lived for 6 months. Chemo did not work for him. He was only 55 years old.

My wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August of 2007. She had surgery (Whipple Procedure) peformed the same month at Evanston Northwestern Hospital by Dr. Mark Talamonti. A wonderful, caring man and surgeon. She started her chemo/radiation protocol in October at Chicago Northwestern with Dr's Mary Mulchahy and William Small, both dedicated to the effort of fighting all cancers not just pancreatic cancer. My wife is nearing completion of her treatments - April (3 chemo treatments left).

Pancreatic cancer awareness efforts continue through many organizations including www.PanCan.org , a nationwide organization who attempt to raise funds and increase awareness with the public as well as our government especially when it comes to funding pancreatic research.

I was a 59 year old female when I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at a Chicago university area hospital.

By chance I went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and after several more tests was put on chemo and radiation for six weeks, was taken to surgery by Dr. Talamonti, after a slight recovery period I had another week of chemo and radiation.

My Whipple procedure was done on March 2, 2001.
I guess I am writing this to say "yes" it can be conquered.

(I still am a female but I'm now 67)

I lost both of my parents to pancreatic cancer----my father was only 54 when he died in 1981, and my mother, at age 79 in 2004. Because of our family history, my brothers and I underwent baseline spiral ct scans with and without contrast, and Endoscopic ultrasounds of the pancreas in 2005. My brothers' tests were "clear", but it was discovered that I have a benign pancreatic cyst. My cyst is being monitored with repeated ct scans, as well as EUS/FNA. I am interested in your patient who had her cyst removed. That option has not been discussed with me,but, frankly, would be a load off my mind, and I'm now wondering if I should bring this up with my doctors?

Terri,

I have heard about his tea too. I am sorry for you that your mom has stopped treatment and seems to have given up hope. Even if you got her to drink the tea, ifshe has lost hope, it will not help. Attitude is one of the biggest parts of being able to fight this disease. I lost my best friend to cancer this past January, and she fought for 13 years before losing hope. It wasn't till she lost hope that she lost the fight. She was an amazing woman and I will never forget her for her determination to fight for so long. I only say all this to let you know that you are not alone in this. I will pray for you to be able to cope with whatever comes your way and for your mom to find the hope and strength to fight again. Please know that you are in someone's thoughts and prayers.

My best friend who was so healthy had a pain in her stomach. Blood tests showed abnormal readings. Pet scan confirmed Pancreatic Cancer. The Docs thought because she was so young and feeling so well, that they had cought it early enough for the whipple procedure. They opened and closed her, as it was all over.

She looked heathly for a few weeks, cofee enemas, you name it. In and out of the hospital to control the pain.

She was put on hospice at home. I asked the nurse when you knew it was time, and she said by the amount of meds for the pain. She was anorexic from her head to her chest, looked like she was carrying 5 babies, and her legs and feet swelled horribly.

One day she fell into a state of sleep with the amount of pain meds needed. She lasted 3 months from the time she was diognosed. Kym was 38 years old.

Unless you are a candidate for the whipple, I suggest not ending your life trying to prolong it for a month. Enjoy the time that you have before it get's to the end.

No cure folks, that is the horrible truth behind PC. Kym felt healed from God and did not believe she was going to die.
