First of all, let me say that I am neither a Nickelback fan nor a hater. I just saw the new-ish video "Far Away" and I must say I am pretty unimpressed. I am actually a firefighter with a focus in wildland (forest) fires and everything in the video is 100% inaccurate. When I say everything I mean the type of protective gear worn, use of air bottles, firefighting tactics blah blah blah. As a working firefighter who is annoyed with the Hollywood-ization of the job, I wish the band would have spent a little more time to actually pay tribute to the people that they have commercially "used" for a cookie-cutter tear-jerking climax to their video. But oh well, I guess it is just Hollywood, eh?

Perhaps the correct gear was not available to their video crew. Nickelback usually describes to the video producer what the song means to them & what they were envisioning when the lyrics were written. The firefighters were portrayed as heros in the video & in reality that is what you guys are. It is after all a love song, not a documentary about firefighters.

I found this article.
Nickelback Gives Back To N.Y. Firefighter 9-11 Fund

11/08/2001 10:00 AM, Yahoo! Music
Kastle

(11/8/01, 10 a.m. ET)-- Nickelback has set up a collection for the New York City Firefighter 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund at its shows. Currently on a headlining trek of the U.S., the band started taking collections at the Boise, Idaho show (November 1). Proceeds will be given to the firefighters during the band's show in New York City at Hammerstein Ballroom on November 30.

The September 11 terrorist attacks profoundly affected Nickelback singer-songwriter Chad Kroeger, who told LAUNCH that after the attacks the band didn't halt its tour, because he sensed people needed entertainment to take their minds off world events. "That feels good for sure, because the people need it," he said. "We've been feeling that ever since the attack. We've been playing shows where the crowd's responses have just been fantastic."

Nickelback has shot half of the video for "Too Bad," its follow-up to the smash hit "How You Remind Me." The performance footage was shot late last month in Vancouver. The second part of the video is set to be shot this weekend, also in Vancouver.

Nickelback continues its tour in Wausau, Wisconsin on Friday (November 9). The tour ends December 12 in Philadelphia.

i didn't even notice the gear they were wearing,(was it structural firefighter gear?) anyway, I am a firefighter and i thought the video was great... Not often enough do we get some credit for what we do, so my helmet is off for the band showing some respect. be safe

My boyfriend is a wildland firefighter. We watched this video together and thought it was GREAT. It actually does portray what we women of wildland firefighter's go through when you are called out and we here and see how destructive the fires are. Kudo's to Nickelback and ALL firefighter's!!! He left for TX this AM after being home for only 36 hours....I hope this is not an indication of the rest of the fire season!

I am a firefighter in N.J. and nickelback is my all time favorite band. I know they used structural firefighting gear instead of the proper wildland gear and their tactics were wrong. however its just a music video and a great song at that. its not often enouph we get credit for what we do by hollywood. yes they messed up a little bit but if you ask my oppinion im happy they dedicated a video towards us.
