Because Congress chooses to continue to fund them. Pretty simple.

AREN'T you glad the media FEEDS both sides the equivalent of FROZEN, pre-packaged dinners?

Interesting how BOTH Bloomberg & FOX both FAIL to mention Bush's contributions to the mess as well:

-June 17, 2002: President G.W. Bush sets goal of increasing minority home owners by at least 5.5 million by 2010 through billions of dollars in tax credits, subsidies and a Fannie Mae commitment of $440 billion to establish NeighborWorks America with faith based organizations.[34]

-2003: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac buy $81 billion in subprime securities.

-June 2003: Federal Reserve Chair Alan Greenspan lowers federal reserve’s key interest rate to 1%, the lowest in 45 years.[35]

-December 2003: President Bush signs the American Dream Downpayment Act to be implemented under the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The goal was to provide a maximum downpayment assistance grant of either $10,000 or six percent of the purchase price of the home, whichever was greater. In addition, the Bush Administration committed to reforming the homebuying process that would lower closing costs by approximately $700 per loan. It was said it would further stimulate homeownership for all Americans.

Did YOU know about any of this beforehand or did you wholly rely on the Bloomberg article to support your post?

Agreed.
I have to be honest... I listened to Gingrich's progressive views on Glenn Beck the other day ( an interview he had with Beck two days ago), and I was shocked and dismayed.

Not sure I understand why the republican party is so frightened of conservativism... especially considering the state of our economy right now.

I do understand that Gingrich and Romney are both playing for the independent votes... must be they both figure the conservative branch(es) of the party will vote for anyone other than Obama. I agree, but I still think the independents are largely fiscally conservative as well.

Personally, I think Obama's campaign is dead before it starts. All he's got to run is class warfare, and now he's out of the closet on socialism, and in fact preaching code for Marxism. The real Barack Hussein Obama has stepped out, and he's a Marxist with no denials.

First, I'm a real conservative and not some puppet RINO or TINO.

Second, those bullets I posted were done by Bush.

Third, these snippets about Fannie and Freddie are merely being amplified after the fact because this was not a paramount pursuit by the Bush administration.

Lastly, if Bush were that CONCERNED about Fannie and Freddie, then why in the hell did he push for half billion in loans for losers?

Are you ably to think for yourself or do you just simply defend FOX bullshit because you have nothing else going for you?

Funny how Bush couldn't see both his recessions coming, and couldn't see Iraq taking 8 years instead of the "couple weeks" and couldn't figure out that giving millionaires and billions a tax cut (costing the USA one trillion dollars) was going cause a problem paying off the debt.

POST #796 -- http://www.topix.com/forum/who/newt-gingrich/...

Ignoring the TROLL-like features of your post, I'll expound on this topic so that ALL of the remaining BUSH idolaters and fellators can get up to speed on the etymology of the housing bubble and its eventual collapse. FOX & Bloomberg have deliberately misled many with their assertions and have successfully SEIZED on it because it's an EASY SELL to an otherwise inept audience that NEVER bothers to check facts and prefers to let their favorite media channel think for them.

These news reports about Team BUSH trying for years to SAVE America by reigning in Fannie and Freddie is a red herring. In reality, the ONLY thing that Team BUSH was attempting to do was eliminate OFHEO in favor of one big master regulator known today as FHFA. Bush singned that effort into law in 2008.

Is essence, Team BUSH systematically supported, promoted, signed legislation, and even boasted about expanding the home ownership for minorities who didn't have enough money for a down payment. Moreover, BUSH himself would even expand the HUD programs to INCLUDE a NEW ZERO DOWN PAYMENT PRODUCT. In essence, BUSH fully supported and promoted the passing of legislation that would not only provide up to $10,000 tax dollars for down payments but eventually expand it to ZERO DOWN PAYMENTs for those who could least afford a home -- the low income minorities. All of the following links are demonstrative of these efforts and are impossible to refute UNLESS you are a worthless, obstimate BUSH idolater or fellator.

* June 17, 2002--President Calls for Expanding Opportunities to Home Ownership--Remarks by the President on Homeownership (Verbatim Transcript) http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/ne...
BUSH: "First of all, government sponsored corporations that help create our mortgage system -- I introduced two of the leaders here today -- they call those people Fannie May and Freddie Mac, as well as the federal home loan banks, will INCREASE THEIR COMMITMENT TO MINORITY MARKETS BY MORE THAN $440 BILLION.(Applause.) I want to thank Leland (Brendsel-Freddie Mac) and Franklin (RAINES--Fannie Mae) for that commitment."

- "This means they will purchase more loans made by banks after Americans, Hispanics and other minorities, which will encourage homeownership. Freddie Mac will launch 25 initiatives to eliminate homeownership barriers. UNDER ONE OF THESE, CONSUMERS WITH POOR CREDIT WILL BE ABLE TO GET A MORTGAGE WITH AN INTEREST RATE THAT AUTOMATICALLY GOES DOWN AFTER A PERIOD OF CONSISTENT PAYMENTS." (Applause.)

*"Fannie Mae will establish 100 partnerships with faith-based organizations that will provide home buyer education and help increase homeownership for their congregations. I LOVE THE PARTNERSHIP." (Applause.)

(This White House speech was chocked full of sickening pandering and boasting by BUSH of the wasteful spending he promoted but one can read it for themselves.)

My Administration launched the HOPE NOW Alliance, which brings together homeowners and lenders and mortgage servicers and others to find ways to prevent foreclosure. -Under the new Zero Down Payment program, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) would insure 100 percent of the cost to acquire a home for first-time homebuyers, allowing them to finance the full purchase price and the closing costs. Potential homebuyers would not have to make the minimum 3 percent down payment required under current law.

* BUSH ADMINISTRATION ANNOUNCES NEW HUD "ZERO DOWN PAYMENT" MORTGAGE
Initiative Aimed at Removing Major Barrier to Homeownership--January 19, 2004
http://archives.hud.gov/news/2004/pr04-006.cf...
-LAS VEGAS - As part of President Bush's ongoing effort to help American families achieve the dream of homeownership, Federal Housing Commissioner John C. Weicher today announced that HUD is proposing to offer a "zero down payment" mortgage, the most significant initiative by the Federal Housing Administration in over a decade. This action would help remove the greatest barrier facing first-time homebuyers - the lack of funds for a down payment on a mortgage.

* Alphonso Jackson -- HUD Secretary under BUSH
http://georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/as...
-"...which gives me the opportunity to talk about one of my favorite programs at HUD, the AMERICAN DREAM DOWNPAYMENT INITIATIVE. The AMERICAN DREAM DOWNPAYMENT INITIATIVE was first proposed by President Bush during his 2000 campaign. We worked with Congress for three years to enact the legislation, and the President came to HUDs offices here in Washington in December 2003 to sign the Act into law. Since that day, HUD has helped more than 6,500 families buy their first homes and about 50 percent of the buyers have been minorities. Next year, were requesting $200 million for this program, which could help 40,000 families achieve homeownership."

What is it about " WE NEED TO PASS LEGISLATION TO REFORM FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MAC." that you don't get? Really. Since when is promoting the sale of tax-free bonds a bad idea to try and turn around the horrible consequences of what the liberal elites put into play.

Maybe you forgot the work of Henry Cisneros in his "deurbanize the ghetto" comments, and how Fannie and Freddie were the principle vehicle of the left, FROM INCEPTION, to put home ownership within reach of those Americans who had zero chance of making payments.

Attempting to pin this on Bush is, obviously, very, very weak.
