In Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism (Basic Books), Arthur C. Brooks finds that religious conservatives are far more charitable than secular liberals, and that those who support the idea that government should redistribute income are among the least likely to dig into their own wallets to help others.
Here we go again. The charitable religious conservatives give mostly to religious organizations, which I don't consider among the most needy.
Many secular liberals are from lower income brackets, and thus cannot afford to be very charitable. Also, some liberals are stinkers, who talk a good game but don't play it.
That aside, I do know conservatives who reach out to others. In too many cases however, they prejudge whom they deem worthy of their largesse.

My general definition of a "compassionate conservative" is someone who feels sorry for the poor, but won't give a dime to help them.

Republicans had a majority in congress for 12 years and 6 of those with a Republican President, in all that time they passed no Budgets.

31 of the Bills forwarded from the House contained language on repealing the Historic Health Care Reform Act, those bills were Dead on Arrival. Those Bill weren't for serious consideration in the Senate. It's for those reasons that the American Electorate swept the House and Senate of Tea Party Republicans on their way to electing325 Obama in a landslide to another term.,,

The house has sent 39 jobs bills to the senate.....last 4 years. 7 budget suggestions........not acted on by the senate.
Obama's budget proposel voted down 441-0 in the house and 97- 0 in the senate in May 2011
Full dem congress failed to pass a budget with a dem president.
The president had 17 job failures in the last four years with shovel ready, cash for clunkers and green energy bankruptcies funded by the taxpayers.
The president can't come up with jobs programs. He's grown the government by double in four years with nothing coming back to citizens. DUH
You really are clueless, aren't you?

<quoted text>Since I was about 5, my family has dealt with BS like this. Do you know what it's like to have to go hungry for nearly a week? Do you know what it's like to have to walk to the store because you have no gasoline? Have you watched your mother break down into tears because she can't support herself, you and your baby sister? This is my life. We've lived everywhere from a car to a RV to a park bench. How long have we been on food stamps? Zero years. Why? Because of all the restrictions Republicans like you have placed on the program. Where you were probably given everything you wanted, I fought for everything I needed. Now I'm 18, so I can finally help support my mother and 11 year old sister. The only comfort I can take is that your blind and ignorant generation is wasting away, and that my children will NEVER have to suffer because of people like you.
Oh boo hoo poor baby you're so full of crap.

No. It's Civics 101; the Republicans did not have a majority in "congress"; they had a majority in the House. The other body of congress is the Senate which was and still is controlled by Harry Reid. The bills were dead on arrival because Harry Reid refuses to let the senators who represent the other 49 states do the work of the people they represent. Harry Reid is about as worthless as teats on a boar. Get rid of him and there might be something accomplished.

Wrong... 15 million "people", nearly 25 million households, up 23% since 2010. Recalculating... recalculating... nah, not doing great, not stabilized.

Correction to my previous--it's 15% of all Americans on food stamps, representing nearly 50 million people.
