Natalie Cole Diagnosed With Hepatitis C

Grammy-winning singer Natalie Cole has hepatitis C. A statement from her publicist said that the liver disease was discovered during a routine examination and likely was caused by her drug use years ago.

I am in my 15th week of a 24 week treatment for Hep C, and my last two blood tests have come back indicating no detectable levels of the virus remaining. I must finish the final 9 weeks of treatment to insure that the virus is completely gone. It is not an easy treatment, but I am glad I made the choice to fight it in the early stages.

I can't picture Natalie Cole as an IV drug user. I wish she would be an advocate for IV drug users in recovery, and also for Hepatitis. It's a huge, huge, bloodborne disease in the US, much more prevalent than HIV.

I think the press should do more to cover Hepatitis, esp. since it is much more prevalent than other more high profile bloodborne illnesses like HIV. It really is an epidemic in the US.

I couldn't agree with you more.. this person obviously wouldn't know good music if it came and bit them in the ass.. the fact is, yes she had abused drugs in the past.. but the thing is she no longer does drugs and has been clean for a long time. I have been a HUGE fan of Natalie's since I was four years old in the70s..(still have some old LPs of hers and everything).. my thoughts and prayers are with you Natalie! get well soon and I cant wait for your new album in September! ;o)

I would challenge all of you to be careful about passing judgement against her or Amy Winehouse or anyone for that matter...Interesting how we can all pass judgement about someone else until it happens to us or someone close to us. We ALL have something we wouldn't be proud of; maybe it's not drug addiction, maybe it's fornication, or alcohol or addiction to spending or ANYTHING that goes against what the BIBLE says we should be doing! The important thing is that she is in recovery from her sickness (yes, addiction is a sickness, just like depression!) and is hopefully, on the road to recovery from this debilitating disease, Hep C. On September 07 I completed treatment and the last 3 blood tests indicated that I no longer have the HEP C virus, and my liver functions are normal. Natalie and anyone else with this, there is a cure if you get the proper treatment. The key is early detection before it can cause any liver damage.
