My Morning Jacket get nostalgic on "Circuital"

May 30, 2011 Full story: WNWN-FM Battle Creek 11

Southern rock act My Morning Jacket call their sixth album "Circuital". But rather than coming full circle after 13 years, the five piece band drifting away from their rock roots for songs that blend R&B, funk and a handful of nostalgia laden tunes.

The article lost me at "Southern rock act..." I realize there are a lot of sub-genres within rock music, but if someone thinks MMJ sounds anything like southern rock, they have no business being a music journalist or critic.

"Z's" in place of "s's." How edgy and original. How did you come up with that idea? Impressive.

I'm guessing your "rhymez" are about as original as your teeny-bopper spelling style. I'll suspend disbelief, though; how about a link to your music?

Does it involve actual musicians, like, for example, the Roots, or is it the typical half-coherent babbling about conspicuous consumption, self-aggrandizement, glorified violence, and disrespect toward women (super-imposed over either music created by a computer, or somebody else) that account for the unfortunate majority of the genre?

I'm just speculating, of course. Here's your chance to prove me wrong; let us hear your tunes, if they exist at all.

I guess, if you're into elevator music. To each his own.

MMJ is by no means my favorite band, or anywhere close. To say that they "suck" is just ignorant, though. Taste aside, those guys are one of the tightest bands I've ever seen live. Like them or not, they can straight up play, as well as put on a good show.

You've not been "layin" anything except words on a screen, so far. Let's hear what you've got.

Either way, you answered one question. If you could play, maybe you wouldn't need a machine like an 808 to do it for you.

I think the word you were looking for was "out," rather than "at." I can't imagine much lyrical genius coming from someone who can't get that much straight.

Still no music, and you've resorted to threats. That pretty much says it all, doesn't it?
