Business scholar says president was 'shallow,''flippant' in 1970s class

Tsurumi—now a professor of international business at Baruch College in the City University of New York—said he remembers the future president as scoring in the bottom 10 percent of students in the class.

The White House did not reply to requests for comment on Bush’s time at HBS.

Tsurumi said he particularly recalls Bush’s right-wing extremism at the time, which he said was reflected in off-hand comments equating the New Deal of the 1930s with socialism and the corporation-regulating Securities and Exchange Commission with “an enemy of capitalism.”

“I vividly remember that he made a comment saying that people are poor because they’re lazy,” Tsurumi said.

Tsurumi also said Bush displayed a sense of arrogance about his prominent family, including his father, former U.S. President George H.W. Bush.

“[George W. Bush] didn’t stand out as the most promising student, but...he made it sure we understood how well he was connected,” Tsurumi said.“He wasn’t bashful about how he was being pushed upward by Dad’s connections.”

Tsurumi said that the younger Bush boasted that his father’s political string-pulling had gotten him to the top of the waiting list for the Texas National Guard instead of serving in Vietnam. When other students were frantically scrambling for summer jobs, Tsurumi said, Bush explained that he was planning instead for a visit to his father in Beijing, where the senior Bush was serving at the time as the special U.S. envoy to China.

Mitt's $7.25 an hour minimum wage? Please indicate what legislative action Mitt Romney took at the Federal level to institute today's minimum wage...or any minimum wage, for that matter. I would be interested to know, considering Romney has never held a public office at the Federal level, and has never held a Federal level government job.
I'm beginning to believe that you are able to write such detailed fiction because you live the life you so often put upon others.
Romney, although he strayed away from those experiences in this campaign, was Governor where he could have determined his State's Minimum Wage.

Don't get me wrong, it's legal to pay the federal minimum wage to your employees.

Romney has approx 150,000 low wage employees crammed into Best Buys, Staples, and Sports Authority retail outlets, hawking products he purchases in China for a huge market.

That's a winning strategy for Romney.

If that's the method that has him classified as a successful Business man and qualified to become President, what other economic opportunity could Romney have had in store for the Millions unemployed and under employed?

Why would he deviate from a model that he employ and works so well for him, he made $23 Million last year?

The arithmetic isn't complicated. Buying cheap, selling hi, and paying minimum wage. If that's a scenario that works well for Romney, why would it not work well for others in the American consumer market?

The market up on a computer in Staples, or Best Buys, is approx $440 Dollars, selling one Computer pays the salary of 3 Romney sales clerks who works 5 hours a day earning $43.50 a shift for 2 days.

If they sold a computer or any other electronic equipment every hour, well it's easy to see how Romney ended up earning $23 Million last year.

And with similar math: 47% of the population doesn't pay Federal taxes and yet get "refunds" and yet the government's imminent fiscal cliff sees no need to cut spending and expect life to go on. Increasing taxes on 53% of Federal tax paying Americans somehow is the answer. Libbies really are daft.

Of course you are incorrect again. Romney won the vote of the people who actually produce something in America.
What's sad is that Obama won the vote of the those who do not. As time goes by, the takers will continue to grow and vote themselves more stuff, and the producers will shrink and continue to put their money overseas.
The economic nightmare that is the future of the United States is only beginning.
And you are to blame.
Yea, Romney without question or a contest won Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Utah, are you noticing a pattern here? Those States and the states to be named in this post house the poorest and least educated Citizens in America, as does, Arkansas, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Kentucky.

Collectively, the 47% he so graciously referred to behind the Curtain when he was entertaining the Wizards who helped to finance his campaign.

There is not one State listed Romney won that has a median income greater than $19.000 per capita.

America, when turned over to Obama in 2009 was a Failed State Economically, your forecast of impending doom has already been the American reality.

I agree, the States where 40% of the working population pays no Federal Income Tax but yet receives those poverty payments disguised as Income Tax Returns are all clustered together West of Virgina, South of Virgina and East of California, and amazing all of them voted overwhelmingly for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan a couple weeks ago. From an unknown but wise man:  "The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.  It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president.
The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.
The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool.  It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

there are more people in NY City that get welfare than the whole state of KY. there may be just one ghetto there that has more people on welfare. The same can be said for LA. CA gets over $24 billion a year in federal aid to pay for welfare while KY gets $600k. So it's not even close.

And I have never seen any waste land here on KY. it is in fact one of the most beautiful states there is. It's not a ghetto.

what is wrong with coal mines? Don't you north east liberals get your heat from coal mines? Why yes you do.

I am not doing so well since America lost the election. A lot of others aren't doing so well either. In fact the cbo says over 700,000 people are going to lose their jobs because if obammycare. And I know of over 18,000 that just lost their jobs.

So sad for you. I'm doing great in my job - in fact, more customers in the last two months than the quarter before!

And no, we get our power from a nuclear facility in New York. Keep your coal mines - we don't need them.

18,000 people have not conclusively lost their jobs yet - and no, Obama had nothing to do with the Hostess debacle. You really need to read and get up to date - the CEO's systematically raided the company, with pay increases of over 300% while the strike was still in full swing dummy. They knew they were going to declare bankruptcy - for the 2nd time since 2004 (hey, you never bitched at Bush when they went bust the first time moron, did you?). So they raided the company before a judge locked down the assets.

Man, you really are slow.

not slow at all. The NE lives on coal. Just a fact nitwit. And most business isn't doing very well. Unemployment numbers are climbing and yes 18,500 are losing their jobs. It is on obammys watch so therefore it will hang around obammys neck just like it should.

They didn't just declare bankruptcy nitwit. They are shutting down. A company can go bankrupt and remain open. Just like GM and Chrysler did. Except they got a sugar daddy deal for the unions in the process. In this case there will just be 18,000 people with no incomes.

Keep your ghetto trash up north. We don't need it down here.
