How, exactly, is a statement in favor of marriage being between a man and a woman a statement, as you describe it, "against gay marriage"? See: "Some have opposed the company's support of the traditional family. "Well, guilty as charged," said Cathy when asked about the company's position. "We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that. "We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that," Cathy emphasized. "We intend to stay the course," he said. "We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles." " http://www.bpnews.net/BPnews.asp...

first amendment, I don't care. I don't eat fast food anyhow, but this probably wouldn't stop me from eating there. . This was probably a well designed publicity act, anyhow. Now you have more fat people lining up to eat crap that is bad for you thinking they're making a stand while shoving MSG laden fat down their pie holes.

Yea, "free speech" for me but NOT for thee...anyone who was offended by Mr. Cathy's personal belief statement isn't gay (happy, enjoying life) at all. They're miserable, angry & insecure in their odd ways of being and it shows by the "in your face" attitudes of far too many. This isn't against homosexuals in any manner of discrimination, neither in service nor hiring. It is a businessman who believes in what his Faith teaches him which is a part of his relationship with his God. Those of you who are "protesting" will not do that when confronted with Islam and the penalties under shariah law. I know that because you are the foul sort(s) of chickens not suitable for consumption. So again, this is a matter of FREE SPEECH- 1st Amendment- which the sissies demand but will not respect when it is exercised by others. R.I.P.: Harvey Milk- "Got Milk?" if so you should see a doctor.

"The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about." ~Oscar Wilde I agree. This 'smelled' from the beginning to be a strategy cleverly laid out by the gay-haters, and the gays walked in without introspection and any clever strategy at all. The big gay groups decided to use the opportunity to try to raise some money, but instead probably helped the gay-haters raise much more money for those groups.

I think the owner of the restaurant should be able to express his opinion without fear of retaliation, but i also think gays should be able to marry each other. so, both sides have a point. i am in favor of accuracy in reporting. the rally in support of gay marriage consisted of 4 or 5 people- NBC should have mentioned this--i think NBC has a duty to point out that hundreds supported the restaurant while only a handful opposed it. the public distrusts the media more than congress and this kind of reporting is one reason why.

By law the stores may not discriminate, and also by law nobody can close one down or prevent one from opening because of the owner's stated views. The hubbub is because he donates fast food proceeds (your money, if you eat there) to organizations which fight to deny rights that marriage would afford same-sex couples.

A very clever post, indeed. You first accuse them of being miserable and then anyone who disputes you is one of those that are one of those protesting. Then you call them sissies, all of which is not respectful, or even remotely amicable. . 80 percent of all US Americans identify with Christianity, that is the majority opinion. There are those that feel that a gay marriage ban is discrimination, not unlike preventing Black Americans from voting. So while he is expressing his opinion, not unlike George Wallace in 1963, it's still just that. It's not even remotely close to 70 or so percent of the population protesting what 0.8% of the population believes.
