Both bands put on a great show, Mayer came out for an encore and did 3 extra songs, he shredded behind his back and did tons of amazing solos..best concert ever

You are an idiot. Tonight's show was to say the least fantastic. Go back to listening to the radio, because obviously your taste in music relies heavily upon what is currently being played. John put on one of the better shows i have seen in my day, a list which includes Dave Matthews, Coldplay, Radiohead, and many, many more. Fantastic playing coupled with amazing crowd response. Who cares that he did not play radio-friendly music.

I wasent at the show not because I dont like Mayer becuase I do like some of his stuff. Hes so good at guitar but I just cant stand his heartbreak kid loverboy persona. I thought about going because I would have really liked to see him shred but was afraid I would loose all respect for the guitar wizard by hearing a bunch of 4 minute radio play hits. Now knowing that he did shred and played CROSSROADS!!!! im wishing I went. About Franti... Hes another one. I cannot stand that persona. Ive seen spearhead a gaggle of times all across the country from CT to CA. His music is feel good dance music but it rarely changes. The show is always the same... "HOW JAH FEELIN!?!!!" Hes like a crappy hype guy. "All the freaky people make the beauty of the world." He does put on a great show and his live show is originally what turned me onto him but it does get boring once you see it a bunch of times.

I have to agree with the other people who commented and say that the concert was FANTASTIC (John Mayer's performance that is...). Franti was ok. I will give him props for working the crowd and inviting kids and adults up to the stage but he is no John Mayer. John's performance consisted of a great selection of songs from all of his albums. His guitar solos were terrific and I love the fact that the concert setup was simple and that he focused on the music only. I thought the drum solo was excellent and his renditions of Don't Stop Believing and I'm on Fire were great. I am not a fan of John Mayer the celebrity but after last night's concert, I will definitely would fork out the cash to see him in concert again!!!!!!

I don't think the reviewer was at the same concert I was. I admit I won my tickets from my radio station (107.9), but after thoroughly enjoying last night's performance, I would GLADLY shell out the money for his next show. I took a good friend with me and she said, "I was pleasantly surprised--I was not expecting it to be this good." She also went on to say--he is a showman...and I fully concur. He plays for his audience and with his audience. Now, if they could just do something about the overpriced T-shirts!!! John Mayer ROCKS!!!

I loved that fact that we didn't hear Say, Your Body is a Wonderland, and Daughters. They are overplayed and just not what I want to hear anymore.

Like the other posters, I want to hear the guitar and drum solos. He and his band are talented musicians and I'd be disappointed if they didn't strut their stuff a bit.

The cover of "Don't Stop Believing" was a fun way for Mayer to interact with the crowd. It was a lively show with wonderful music from start (Michael Franti) to finish (AWESOME version of Gravity).

an overlong drum solo? You just don't have a clue, do you?

Okay, made a mistake on my last post, please excuse.

Listen, the reviewer is completely entitled to their opinion.

My wife, who is not a John Mayer fan came with me last night. She has been subjected to his music on our car rides since Mayer's last appearance in Columbus in 2008. She was in awe.

The musicianship of this group is beyond comprehension. Was this the best I've ever heard from them? Nope.....but still worth every penny

FALSE.

Both bands were fantastic. John Mayer was amazing! He sounded great and so did his band.

I loved when he mixed his old stuff with his new stuff-and I loved when played Don't Stop Believin...

Did Black Eye'd Peas get any heat when they DJ's for an hour?-NO-they were actually entertaining.

Bottom Line-He was worth every penny-even the $45 T-such a cute logo. Many bands have such crappy shirts-cheap-cotton with a stupid print. These were atleast the burnt cotton, softies.

John Mayer put on an incredible show last night. You Gary Budzak must not understand good music. The level of talent that he presented last night was impeccable. The songs he played like I'm on fire are extremely rare for him to play and the real John Mayer fans appreciated them. And how is waiting on the world rushed??? He had a 5 minute drum opening. You better get your head on straight if your going to continue to write reviews for concerts.

I agree that Franti was a lot more fun than we all probably expected, but I think John Mayer was absolutely incredible last night. Those of us who know the words to every single one of his songs weren't all that disappointed that we didn't hear the songs that end up being over-played on the radio. I've seen him 3 times and this was definitely the best yet.
Definitely an incredible show, even though he could've cut down a couple of his rants a little bit. I'm still as in love with him as the next girl, but he's an incredible musician who has an insane amount of talent and he left it all out there for us last night. amazing show.

I have always liked John Mayer's music but I have never owned one of him albums. I went to the show last night with a friend who has always loved his music and I can personally say that I do now too. I have been to tons of concerts and this is one of the best Ive seen. His vocals and guitar skills are amazing. I personally love that he doesnt get on stage and quickly run through his hits as if you are listening to one of his albums. He has the ability to shred the guitar and just let the audience enjoy the music. I would love to see him again!

Mayer sucks as a guitarist. Period. Nothing that he does on guitar is innovative or interesting. If you want to hear music that's inspired, go listen to SRV or the other 70/80s blues-rock artists that his "shredding" embarrassingly apes.

He's promotable because he a pretty little boy that can make the little girls swoon as they dream about his cute little dimples and butt-cheeks. But no one can really make a case that this guy has anything musical to offer. Unless, of course, you're a musical idiot. It's a shame that real artists and innovators have to take a backseat to this guy's omnipresence.

Music reviewers typically have no music experience themselves. They are self righteous and get wet over stuff like Lady Gaga. So when John Mayer or someone shows off musicianship they get bored and reminisce hearing "your body is wonderland" while they were writing another crappy review at Starbucks back in the day.

Bottom line is that John Mayer is a blue guitarist. He got known playing radio friendly stuff and when he made it big he could afford to be himself. If this review read up on him besides the crap he regurgitated from People magazine he would know that.

God forbid a musician plays music he wants rather than going up on stage and being a jukebox like the majority of the bands this review probably loves. I've never understood music reviewers and I never will. It's like they hate music or are perpetually angry that their parents never bought them a fender stratocaster when they were 12.

Obviously you and the reviewer have no clue of what talent is! I will give you that Franti and Spearhead were VERY good. GREAT opening act! In fact after seeing them, I would go to a headline performance anytime! We were all lucky enough to get two concerts for the price of one. To say JM is not a talented guitarist just makes you the idiot. Seriously? It is dumb guys like you that are too jealous of his "total package" that overlook the pure talent that he is. Why would blues ledgends and greats like Eric Clapton admire him if he sucked? If you aren't a fan, don't go to the concert! And agreeing with a past comment, the fans don't want to hear the songs that have been played to death on the radio.

John Mayer has the most enormous head on the planet. Is that way he can only wear v-neck tee shirts?
