Hello, I am Bill, and a Christian, I listen to a lot of groups such as AC/DC and The Who. I have one of Metallica's albums and I must admit they are a very good band. I just want to make sure that they are not blaspheming Christ. I am referring to the song "The God That Failed" even though the only album I have by them is "...And Justice For All" I know Hetfield grew up in a Christian household I just want to make sure that I am not listening to blasphemers of Christ!

Metallica are not an Anti-Christ band. "The God That Failed" is a song regarding James' Hetfield's upbringing in a Christian household. Apparently he was not keen on Christianity and felt like he was being forced, and thats what the song is about.

Dude, Metallica is definately not an anti-Christ band. I too am a Christian and they are my favorite metal band of all time and I constantly listen to them in my basement. The only reason my mom hates them is for the noise. Avoid Slayer, they are anti-Christ.

On their second album, Ride the Lightening, they have a song called Creeping Death all about the story of Moses trying to free the Egyptians and all of the results from God such as the river of blood and the angel of death. Check it out.

Isn't their frontman, Tom Araya, a Catholic though? I don't listen to them but just saying

First of all, their frontman's name is James Hetfield one of the most powerful voices in metal. And he was raised in a Christian household has a child. I don't know if he still is a Christian, but he uses that prior knowledge as influence for a few Biblical songs such as The Four Horsemen and Creeping Death.

OMG! Sorry about that last comment. I thought you were talking about Metallica when you were really talking about Slayer. My mind blanked for a minute.

Yeah, I too have heard that Tom Araya is a Catholic. But yet some of their lyrics, themes, and photos in albums and on stage seem Anti-Christ.

Music is music, good music doesn't change just because an artist sings against a certain view in another song.

I believe Kerry King said that the song "God Hates Us All" is about when you have a bad day and you feel like God hates you. I guess they have some demonic images, though.

The Four Horsemen is about the apocalypse and Creeping Death is about Moses, you should also mention Blackened, which I believe is about Revelations, the end of the world.

Slayer is not an Anti-Christ band. Tom was brought up Catholic. The on-stage antics and lyrics are all for shock value. If you listen to early interviews with the members of Slayer, they said the reason they write the lyrics the way they do is because it was something different than all of the glam hair bands in the early 80's. Metallica is not anti either. You can head band to all of these guys tunes and not worry about being blasphemous.

You are correct on your post.

"Blackend is the end. Winter it will send. Throwing all you see, into obscurity. Death of Mother Earth. Never a re-birth. Evolutions end. Never will it mend. NEVER."

Metallica are not anti-christ at all. Slayer do it for the shock value, and Tom Araya is a catholic while the others are atheists. But don't let religion get in the way of music, I'm catholic but I listen to some music that is very anti-christian. Just know that most bands that appear satanic only do it for show, and many are actually christians. For some reason, many people think that Ozzy Osbourne is a satanist even though he wears a cross everyday and openly admits he is christian. But yeah, a lot of metal bands will write lyrics that seem evil when really they are only for the image.

You are correct. If you are so worried about certain music being non-religious or even satanic you should listen to non-secular music. Just because certain mainstream or Pop bands don't sing about evil things or even satanic things doesn't mean that the Church will accept them. If you are concerned honestly, listen to gospel and stay away from good metal music. You are not worthy.

Okay, you know what? Enough of the back and forth about Satanism in music. If it sounds good to you...Listen to it. If it sounds like Shit....Don't for Christ sake.

I'm also one of the Rock music lover. I'll also don't want to hear a song which is against chirst. Me too had a same feeling like the dude who heard that 'lord that failed' song. I feeled so bad to hear that song singing by my Idol band Metallica. But now reading all these reply I'm feeling quite good. If I didn't read all ur reply then I would be hating Metallica as an anti-chirst bands. I'll like to thanks all u guys for eradicating my suspection against Metallica. Long live Metallica, god bless Metallica.
