He did not take responsibility for his actions. He only apologized for his "beligerent behavior" and blames his comments on being drunk. This is not the first time he has made anti-semetic remarks. This proves "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"

This just shows he's human. A child of christ. None of us are perfect. He's no different from me. I get frustrated and let loose a tirade at times. All the more reason I need God to get me through this part of life. So... let those without sin cast the first stone.

When the police start puting secret microphones and secret video cameras in their police cruisers and stalk the restaurants for drunken celebrities, it makes you wonder if members of organized crime families are not in the same cruisers working the same church. What becomes of the mole in the sheriff's department who released deputy James Mee's arrest statement to the press? There are bigger issues involved here that are not legally being discussed. If Mel Gibson resisted arrest, why wasn't he charged for resisting arrest. When you treat DUI cases like celebrity murder cases (They give him three different blood level tests), you have to read them their rights before you take them into the station.

so mel apologises to the jewish community this afternoon..asking for their forgiveness and help in overcoming his problem. And of course..its all attrbuted to his falling off the wagon and getting sloppy drunk... again.

But drunk has nothing to do with anything..it's a smokescreen that only complete idiots would fall for. While not an expert on drinking myself, somehow i don't belive intoxication cause you to suddenly spout anti-semtic, or anti-black, or anti-gay, or anti-anything tirades..unless you ARE anti those things when you are not drunk!! Alcohol simply reduces inhibitions,it doesn't generate prejudicial and bigoted thought processes that aren't already there.

Protestations that he was drunk..doesn't remove the fact that he's a jew hater just like his father (an admited neo-Nazi and Holocaust denyer)...and his claims that he's not anti-semetic is just another lie from just another lying Christian fanatic.

Those who are so shallow as to excuse his comments to his alcohol abuse are either ignorant, or Christian apologists who likely hold views similar to Mels, but aren't drunk enough to spout them. There are no other options.

Why can't you just let go. Anti-semetic is a sickness. As well anti-black or anti-arab. Bigots are those that take a biased attitude and insists on it and practice it in their daily life. Mel apologized and recognized his mistake. Let go. Now GO AFTER THE BIGOTS WHO ARE CLEANSING A WHOLE NATION BY KILLING THE KIDS AND THE WOMEN...

Mel Gibson is a great actor, but he is not a great person. He says he is deeply religious, but he is not. True religious people of my faith (Catholicism) or any other faith, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, other sects of Christianity, etc. do not favor the feelings, the thoughts, the comments, that Gibson does. He has been anti-semitic in the past, based upon his comments, and he is apparently is still so. Truly religious and devout Catholics do not favor prejudice or bigotry against any man (God's children). War, poverty, hatred, bigotry, predjudice---these are all man-made---not God made. I believe that Jesus died for our sins...hatred of our fellow man is just one of the many sins---and Gibson lives this sin. This is really even about Mel Gibson, this is about the human condition, the one that allows one man to throw rocks at another and believe it is acceptable and God's way. Mel Gibson's belief system is no better than that of any of the world's terrorists...they hate for the sake of hatred and for the power of fear and hatred...and for these actions God will have the final say...Mr. Gibson should be apologizing to God, not just the police officer or Jews or Hollywood, for in the end, that is who he will answer to.

If an Israeli soldier hit the hand of a Palestinian youth with a police baton and broke all the bones in his hand because he was suspected of throwing a rock at police state terrorism, why don't the deeply religious persons of the Catholic faith call this Israeli soldier an anti-semitic. The Jews use this term to denote bigotry against Jews, not Palestinians, people who also members of the semitic race. I have not met one Christian who did not believe that all the Jews are going to burn in hell for their infidel beliefs. Liberals posing as Jews and Jews posing as Catholics is not a very high spiritual thought. Let us be honest, some Gods suck worse than others.

ADL Welcomes Mel Gibson's Apology To The Jewish Community

New York, NY, August 1, 2006 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today accepted actor Mel Gibson's apology for anti-Semitic remarks he made during an arrest on suspicion of drunken driving.

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:

This is the apology we had sought and requested. We are glad that Mel Gibson has finally owned up to the fact that he made anti-Semitic remarks, and his apology sounds sincere. We welcome his efforts to repair the damage he has caused, to reach out to the Jewish community, and to seek help.

Once he completes his rehabilitation for alcohol abuse, we will be ready and willing to help him with his second rehabilitation to combat this disease of prejudice.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
__________

If the ADL can so graciously accept Mel's apology and offer to help him, so should the rest of us. The ADL is showing tremendous integrity and class. Alcohol doesn't simply allow what people "really" think to come out by reducing inhibitions. It can also unleash dark thoughts and feelings that the conscious mind rejects.

God speed Mel on his way to recovery from addiction and in dealing with whatever private demons sparked his anti-semitic tirade. Kudos to the ADL

By the way, Israel has every right to defend herself, and there is no moral equivalency between Israel and Hezbollah, the latter being a terrorist organization that deliberately places innocent civilians in harm's way.

Give Mel a break, a lot of people were against his movie the "Passion" and are now rolling over this DUI. But come on, he is not Hitler, and not a NAZI, those people lost in 1945... 1945. Will this witch hunt for more Nazi's ever end? Do we need to keep looking for more Nazi's,,,,how about looking for more terrorists... They are real and did not lose in 1945. Mel is harmless and does fine work in Hollywood. The past is over, there will not be another Nazi government, slavery is over in the South, and racism only exists to those who profit from it.

Very well put Axman!! It really really angers me that so many Hollywood celebrities are so ready to make such judgmental and self-righteous comments about Mel Gibson in relation to this incident. Since when were these judgemental celebrities perfect???? NEVER!! I read that Barbara Walters said something to the affect on the "View" that she would no longer watch Mel Gibson movies. If she did say that, I'd consider HER a bigot, and not only that but VERY shallow as an individual. I told a family member of mine that I had read that Walters had said she wouldn't watch any more of Mel Gibson's movies, and the response I got in return, referring to Barbara Walters statement was "Who cares!!!"

He was drunk! Have not any of you ever got belligerently drunk and mouthed off? You regret it the next day, and do a lot of apologizing. You know you didn't mean it. But, because he said something about Jews, he is automatically jumped on. It has been blown out of porportion, way out. Give it a break. Some of us have been there, and we know what it feels like. Making this into a race thing is stupid, and doesn't deserve this kind of reaction.

There aren't??? Why don't you check out the arresting deputy sheriff's comments at this URL http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory... . I'd say, being Jewish, and the arresting officer, HIS WORDS CARRY WISDOM.
