What a load of rubbish! Mel had a brilliant lowland Lanarkshire Scottish accent.
Millions of Scots were blown away by his portrayal of William Wallace and if his accent had been that terrible the Scots would have said so when the film was released back in 1995.

the worse part of the movie are the english and the irish.

The mentality is degenerated on all 3.

The truth about scottish accents: You might say 'I hate the heaviness, rolled Rs, brogues...'

Truth is you're listening to bad accents . Examples: shrek, the guy with TERRIBLE scot accent on G.I.Joe, the stupid vikings on 'how to train your dragon'(why dont they have a norse accent anyway?),even William Wallace AKA: mel gibson, Had a bad scottish accent on theaward winning 'Braveheart'.

You need to listen to a real scottish actor/person to hear a real scottish accent.

Henry Ian Cusick, LOST's Desmond Hume is an example of a real scottish accent. a reason he took the role was because he could use is normal accent. The accent isn't harsh or heavy, it's soft, flowing, and no R'S aren't rolled so drastically. It's not so exaggerated.

Mel Gibson is much better than that dude is on Shrek, or the others you mention there. Who is Henry Cusick, and what does he do now? Has be won awards for acting and or directing? It is much more harder when you are running to and from the cam,and trying to act/direct and keep an accent going all at the same time, dude. I say Mel did an awesome job, and that is why he won more times than one for that movie.

^ I agree that Mel did a better job than the others, but I was talking about real accents, I wasn't applying that Gibson was a bad actor otherwise.

Cusick has been nominated but hasn't won awards, I was just using his real accent for an example.
Ewan McGregor is another example of a real Scottish accent- though I don't think he uses it often in films,(not the popular ones anyway)but you'd hear it in interviews.

I wasn't dissing Mel Gibson, he does an excellent job in many films.

Mel gibson did the best he could for scotland and he showed the world how strong scotland is thru his movie Braveheart , so no scottish person should complain. No he is not scottish, he was raised in australia as a child and tried his best. what he believed in was making a movie to defend scottish pride and thats all a scottish born highlander needs to know !
