yeah uh huh right I believe you really.
Seriously , the only books that should be banned from school libraries are the ones that you have to be 18 to purchase.

Evangelicals (like Palin) are antiAMerican and dangerous

Palin would ban books too.. and teach "God did it" as science.

Evangelist Alamo had 9-year-old bride:
Jael Sprinkle, 32, testified that she was taken as Alamo's wife at age 17 and was considered his wife for two years. She said Alamo had five other wives at the time and that she knew of him taking a 9-year-old girl as his wife.

Imagine the United States if a muslim becomes president... muslims consider Mohammad a prophet, but he was in fact a pedophile who had a 6 year old bride who he raped when she was 9.

Just goes to show you that if Washington DC isn't busy commy-ing up the joint, then a segment of sheeple on "Main Street" (oooh catch phrases) will do it for them.

Thank God the libraries haven't totally caved for the most part. People need to mind their own business! Why anyone gives a shit what other people read is beyond me.

Among titles were Huckleberry Finn? Mark Twain? GET REAL! Harry Potter, ok I can see some fundies with their undies in a bunch over that, if you kid brings it home then take it away. really it is FICTION! And brilliant fiction at that, that series has more kids excited about reading how can this be bad? Do they really think their kids will become devil worshipors over Harry Potter? GET REAL! Teach your kids for one! It is not the schools job to instill your morals in your children, that is the parents job!

Banning Books = banning ideas & worldly knowledge. If you really don't want your kids to learn about all that stuff, don't send them to college, just keep them at home all their lives. Everything you try to protect them from before they're 18 will become culture shock when they leave home.

Why don't we just make Christian Book Stores the public librarys? What a boring world it would be be. And scary to think there are such closed minded people among us.

Dare to open your minds. Dare to expand your horizons. Dare to try to understand those who are not like you. As has been pointed out, your kids are eventually going to be their own person, in spite of you. Let them explore with your guidance or they will just do it behind your back one day.

BTW, Mark Twain is one of the greatest American writers ever. No one could or ever has turned a phrase like him, except maybe O. Henry.

This is always an effect of having the religious right in control. Freedom of thought, science, reason, logic, intelligent curiosity.. all go out the window. School kids know what the "bad words" are, etc... banning books is just fear of losing control and power. Shall we go back to burning little girls for dancing?( as in Salem Massachusetts of long ago)

Nothing is scarier than religious nuts. It doesn't matter what flavor they are; when they believe it's their God given duty to save the rest of the world from the evils they've manufactured in their heads, we are all in trouble.

First of all, it is NOT any government's responsibility to regulate morality. Republicans scream for smaller government yet they are constantly wanting more and more moral rules and regulations.

They scream about personal responsibility. Being personally responsible means being responsible for YOURSELF, not for me, not for the rest of society. If you don't want your children to read a certain book, don't let them. If you don't want your child to watch certain TV shows, get rid of the TV. If you don't want to smoke marijuana, don't. Be responsible for YOU and I'll be responsible for ME. Don't regulate what I can and cannot do.

Regulate yourself and you'll be fine. Trying to morally regulate the entire population is simply a form of fascism disguised as concerned members of society.

You and I don't usually share the same opinion on things, but on this I have to say RIGHT ON! This is an awesome post and the root of MOST of our issues in this country. We are regulating behavior way to much, everything from the nanny laws to much more serious ones that are stripping our personal liberties under the guise of "protection". The banning of books is merely one of the ways groups try to do this.
