I was put off somewhat by episode one but episode two was better, I seemed to be able to follow the action better this week. I think Charles Dickens might feel a little plagiarism had taken place!

One thing loved Matthew's line "don't dicker with me" ( did I hear that right?)

It is picking up, I did gasp once or twice.

Not only Dickens but Mark Twain and Guy Ritchie I see (not that Guy is in any league.) Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery then?

I agree with May, the first episode was nastily violent butI have to say very well told and interesting. I missed the first 10 mins so need to catch that up. I watched the second episode and have got thoroughly caught. But sadly it will always be a catchup on my computer rather than on the TV. M has lots of delightful mannerisms that he brings to the character - such a lovely personalisation

He does! Do you mean the blinking, he has been doing a bit of that. I think it suits the character too. Must say I am looking forward to Ep 3 because of the cholera subject, as in the late 1800's my part of the world suffered terribly from an epidemic which people still talk about today. Do you think Matthew's "wife" is going to succumb? Wish she would as I don't want DI Reid to have a wife! LOL!

I don't think she will though as we need that back story which was hinted at in the church.

I have heard that filming starts in April on Series 2 so good news for Matthew.

People Magazine have reported that Matthew Macfadyen in Ripper Street has a soft low voice and tired bedroom eyes which would have lured Queen Victoria out of widowhood!

Watched the 3rd episode, the only reason I watch it is for MM, I am not going to lie it is not pleasant to watch but some people love it, tonight needed a strong stomach and I had to turn away, the sets and costumes are amazing though. I like a good drama but this is something else.

Ripper Street got 5m viewers so holding its' own. Mr Selfridge slightly ahead with 6m. Would be interesting if Ripper Street had not been up against Mr S or vice versa.
