Busha s memoir tackles his key decisions
#1 Nov 22, 2010
From the article:
"After 9/11, as Bush points out with some frequency, he became a wartime president. And it is on this count that “Decision Points’’ tries hardest, as Bush promised, to put readers in his place. In one of Bush’s first author interviews, Matt Lauer pressed the former president on his authorization of waterboarding.“Would it be OK for a foreign country to waterboard an American citizen?’’ Lauer asked.“All I ask,’’ Bush replied,“is that people read the book.’’
It doesn't surprise me one bit that Bush saw himself as a "wartime" President, but it DOES surprise me that Matt Lauer let him off the hook so easily. I wonder what Bush's answer to the question would have been? Of course, it's NOT OK that a foreign country would waterboard an American citizen, but then neither is it okay for America to waterboard a foreign citizen.
