George Curry's article about the King children is completely off the mark, just as he wrote a similar and demeaning article about Mrs. King years ago. First, the King family, of all people, should be entitled to whatever dollars they make. It is their father, not George Curry's, who lost his life. More importantly, every other entity, individual around this country makes money in the name of Dr. King. Eric Michael Dyson wrote a book criticizing the King family for the same thing but, the irony of it was that he profited from the book. The King family works extremely hard in keeping their fatherís legacy going and that takes money. With regards to the memorial and if anyone who really knew Dr. King they would know that he would not have wanted a memorial. Instead, he would have wanted the $120 million raised to help the poor or continue his legacy at the King Center to eliminate the triple evils of racism, war and poverty. Now that the memorial is finished, why does Harry Johnson continues to raise money in the name of King? To make money, to profit. The King family has every right to protect the intellectual property of Dr. King, just as the estates of John Kennedy, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson does. I believe that the whole purpose of Mr. Curry's article is to keep his fledging magazine make a profit.
