Makeover Pieced Kitchen Cabinet

We had ash kitchen cabinets built in our basement home. We later decided to build a house on top of the basement. We moved the kitchen cabinets upstairs to the house but they liked about 12" being the correct width since the basement walls were thicker than the house walls. The cabinets were pieced about 6" on each side of the kitchen stove on the base and each side of the stove vent on the upper cabinets as well as the cabinet tops being pieced in 3 places. We are now going to replace the cabinet top but how would we camoflauge the cabinets? Yes, we have lived with it up to this point, but now that we are changing the countertops I would like to have the cabinets looking nice as well. Thanks for any advice.
