Man I guess I am just out of touch but that was one of the stupidist movies that I have ever seen. Well, I can't remember the last time I liked something that won an oscar. Look at Al Gore's half truth filled movie. Yea, I am just out of touch.

I want to see this movie. I loved Bardem in 'A Sea Inside'. I can't say that I've seen any of the Coens films.

That makes TWO of us! In fairness, Blood Simple and Fargo were their absolute best. The latter was a huge hit here in Minneapolis.

However as to their AA so-called winner, "No Country..." is an appropriate title. There is NO SUCH an country in Texas. Coen's characterize Texas as a vast wasteland where people are either meaner than shit and/or stupid. So this got my "NO" vote. People are like sheep. Reviewers have pushed this lameass show into the consciousness of knee-jerk movie-goers.

Somebody said Millers Crossing was a good show. Lousy. It is tied with Barton Fink as another lameass, no plot, amorphous movie.

Aside from Blood Simple and Fargo, the only things that hold the other Coen Brothers movies together are the sprocket holes in their films showing in the theaters.

i can appreciate your opinion although i disagree.

what holds coen brothers movies together are characters that defy categorization.

Their mean characters are merely typical stock villains. They are simply re-hashed, ho-hum variations on the old-time vaudeville and old-time movie villains that tied Sweet Nelly to the track.

The Coens' villains are 100 percent scum. The only thing missing is the old-time "HISS AT THE VILLAIN" cards inserted or subtitled.

And the larger thing going here is the choice of such a film.

I liked the technical awards. Those are the folks that REALLY make the movies. However I tire of the Borne-Again movies with scrEEEEETching tires and wham/bam/slam sfx over and over and over again. This kind of shit applies to reptilian minds. And it appears that is what moviegoers hae become.

And although movies keep evolving technically--with the exception of archaic film-based cameras--the story quality goes down. If the Technical Curve were plotted on a graph with the Story curve, they would be two separate curves that could never intersect.

Indeed, sfx editing has evolved so that it is really a no-brainer. Sfx are now electronically rendered before the final mix-to-pix. There is no end to the amount of sfx.

And what happens is that sfx compete to kill the dialogue mix. You can add just so much 1 to 3Khz presence to speech before it breaks up into SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSsibila nce. The movie house speakers won't reproduce it clearly.

And when it gets to DVD, it's a real mess!!!

Enough for now. Gotta have a bit of breakfast and cuppa mud.

Has the Oscar's lost some of its luster and appeal or was it practically nonexistent because of the strike? To be honest I didn't even know the Oscars were on which brings me to my question. I've noticed that many of the top awards went to foreign actors, what is happening to our American actors? Are we not producing good enough talent to win the big awards or are foreign actors better at the craft? I see an influx of foreign actors that are doing very well but I don't hear a thing about the up and coming or new American actor. I'm not really a big time movie fan or anything but this is something I've noticed and I wonder if anyone else has noticed the same?

I cannot beleive that this movie won Best Picure.
I was sooooooooo disappointed. I almost walked out of the theater..but kept thinking that there had to be something that was actually going to be interesting....
Simply one of the worst movies I have seen..along with All the Kings Men (which I did walk out on...and I love Sean Penn)

I have not seen this picture, but in the past, I have enjoy the Coen Brothers films.

However, I now view Hollywood and the Oscars with the same status as the AVN awards:

http://www.avnawards.com/

Both sides of film these days lack and social redeeming values and only exist because of greed & vanity.

The award for this piece of shit speaks very, very poorly of Hollywood.

Bring back the days, below, for such songs.

"Oh Lord, I must see Garbo in person.
And Gable when they're rehearsin'
And some director is cursin'"

It's because they have a much higher caliber of actor overseas. The movie actors also have extensive stage training. They know how to express themselves more openly and portray much, much wider ranges of characters.

US actors must be chosen for their lack of talent. There has to be some buggery going on because there is a HUGE lack of movie talent here.

However I see a LOT more talented people in independent and made-for-cable/TV movies, especially in this area. This is a HUGE stage theater town with local actors very, very skilled in theater. So the transition to movies is just a sleepwalk.

Thus local actors here are quite like foreign actors, having a ton of theater background as well as movie opportunities.

I think you are right. When we keep promoting non talents like Lindsay Lohen as the American Actress of the future you know we are in horrible shape.
