At a time when the men of glam exemplified androgyny, Jobriath was openly gay . It wasn't an act - not that theatricality wasn't part of that world, but walking it like you talked in the 1970s was a whole 'nother thing; one fraught with personal danger and commercial risk.

Amazing, bizarre, unforgetable yet gone in almost no time as a flop knock off of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust phase, I remember seeing Jobriath coming on Midnight Special dressed... as a lampshade-flower or somthing. Great song but you could tell he was going just a bit too far.
