I was there to watch them cut (break) the ribbon and it was great. It wasn't any different than I remembered it years ago. Now if they could open Rosie's back up just like it used to be, downtown would be the "place to go" again!

We went down to the Cheyenne Saloon tonight to check it out. We went many times back in the hay day of Church Street Station. I had no idea the charge tonight was $55, so I decided it wasn't worth it. At 2020 EST, there was no one in line waiting to get in and when looking in the window, there wasn't much of a crowd. To get to there, we had to park at 24 hour metered parking, in a dark and filthy parking lot. We then walked 2 blocks, one being along the tracks. Our walk was along poorly lighted and very dirty streets, with construction everywhere. Not one single police officer was in view. However, there were a number of street people roaming around. Downtown Orlando, in the day time is not a pretty thing to behold, but at night it is even worse. Everywhere we looked, there was filth, litter and poor lighting. It doesn't take long to figure out that downtown Orlando is no world class city, it is more like a slum. The mayor and city council members should all walk around downtown at night and see how disgusting it really is. Even in the daylight, it is a mess. Everything is torn up and has been for a very long time. I avoid downtown at all costs and everyone I know avoids it too. Maybe Orlando should hire Disney to oversee the downtown and clean it up. Even with a few new buildings, it is one nasty looking place and not a place to visit at night.

How many locals are going to pay $35-$55 more than once to see a show there? Also get a chance to get mugged, stabbed or shot in the City Beautiful. I don't think Bob Snow should count on the locals to make a go of this. All we need is tumbleweed blowing down Church Street to complete the scenery.

Another couple of comments on downtown Orlando...
All parking garages should be required to provide retail space along the sidewalk. A large ugly parking garage that takes up a block or so, ruins the area and no one wants to walk along that block and no one wants to locate across from it. Also, there should always be police officers on foot in downtown Orlando, especially at night time. On Central between Orange and Garland, there is a garbage collection station that you can smell all over the area. It is just amazing to me that the mayor, the city council members and all the business people who live or work in downtown Orlando, can accept the conditions that exist there and do nothing about it. It is almost impossible to find anything nice to say about downtown Orlando. However, the downtown area could be nice, with a little planning and a little action. I, for one, could turn it around just like Donald Trump turned the New York City ice skating rink around after the City couldn't quite get the job done. He did it in record time and under budget. The job needs to be done by someone who knows what to look for and has the imagination and creativity to do the job. If Orlando is to ever be a world class city, some serious action needs to be taken and the sooner the better. Also, if Church Street Station and the Cheyenne Saloon are to succeed, downtown Orlando needs to be greatly improved.
