There are 39 comments on the www.eurweb.com story from Sep 4, 2009, titled 'Pray for Maia Campbell' campaign started: Video shows actress' drug-fueled rant in Compton. (Video). In it, www.eurweb.com reports that:

*Former TV star Maia Campbell became a top ten trending topic on Twitter yesterday after WorldStarHipHop.com posted a video that showed what they claim is the actress-turned-prostitute on a drug-induced rant in Compton, Calif.

The 32-year-old actress is best known for her role as Tiffany Warren in the sitcom "In the House," which starred LL Cool J and ran from 1995 to 1999 – first on NBC, then UPN.

In 1997, she recorded an album with Atlantic Records. At the time, she described her musical style as "cerebral soul."

The future appeared to be bright for the rising star. But in the years since "In the House" was cancelled, there were various reports that Campbell had developed a serious addiction to crystal meth and had even become a prostitute to support her habit.

I thought she was manic depressive and suffered from other forms of dementia. I thought that is what led her to the drugs in the first place and that it was a combination of her mental instability and drug use the led to her two children being taken away from her. This woman is in pain and unstable and she needs help, not criticism. She needs to be on medication. She lost her kids, which she talks about in her rant but she also said she still manages to get to church (which can do no harm), she lost her mother and I think she said in the video that she lost her father too. She is living on the streets, eating chips for breakfast and is talking about how the guy with the camera got her in trouble and how she is now going to get her *ss beat.

It is a shame that someone was low enough to make this video and post it but now that he has, I hope someone who may be able to be a positive influence in this woman's life gets to see it.

It looks like her to me and there was a video of her about a year ago getting her hair braided in Compton and again eating chips and begging some butch to take her to the spot to get her drugs and then she got in the car with two of them, I think they had stolen some stuff from a department store too (or something crazy that they were talking about). There were three in the car Maia in the back seat, and two others in the front or it could have been the driver in the front and two in the back but whatever, the other two were teasing about how Maia stank (street life and all) and how she smelled up the car and needed to wash. Maia has been living this life for a few years now and if she doesn't get the help she needs (medication, rehab and counseling and prayer, not necessarily in that order), she is probably headed for destruction. She is at the brink or very near it. You could hear it when she was in the car and told the camera guy "you not going to get your *ss beat, now I am going to get my *ss beat and you don't care." She said this when the other guy was getting in the car after she was told she was making too much noise in front of his family and they were starting to complain. So, I took that to mean, he was going to take her some place, beat the stuffing out of her and probably rape her yet again but call it consensual sex. She don't know what the hell she's doing, she just wants her next hit.

When she first got famous she used to kick it with them.

She has biopolar disorder or schizophrenia. Her mother even wrote a book about it called "72 hours"--in the book she detailed a girl who NEEDED help because of SERIOUS mental health issues and she went to a mental hospital for 72 hours and then checked out and said she was "fine"--when really she was not. Soon after she turned to drugs. Her mother, LL Kool J and others tried to get her help but she would not take it. The combination of drugs and being biopolar or even schizo is LETHAl. When her mother died, Mia went crazy. It's sad because she really has no one looking out for her.

And clearly those men in that video ARE BLACK simple logic and are clearly taken advantage of her, NOT Encouraging her to get help. She may get down with wm, but BM sure aren't helping her either.
Not everything is black and white.
It's always about white boys with you, are you a fag that secretly wants white boys?
Foolish child. I ain't talkin bout now. This is the ruins of a once find building. I'm talkin bout when she first got famous in hollywood. I'm talkin bout when she was like 20,21 years old.

She been on cocaine for the longest, and bill maher tried to smash that like 12 years ago.

She used to party with white folks when she first took off.

Partyin with the wrong folks. Let be real. She was on crystal meth? Partyin with them damn white boys. That's what I wanted to say at first. That's what happened.
Her main personal fault isn't with whom she went to a party.....is that she accepted drugs, no matters whom offered her them. I've also met, even went to a bar, party, etc with persons of different ethnicities....but, even if someone would have offered me drugs, i wouldn't have accepted to take them or "try" it....whatever race or ethnicity he/she would have been.

...but the key is her mental incapcity. She is a manic depressive a.k.a. bipolar, which in most cases is treatable with medication when recognized and as someone mentioned before many times it is hereditary but it can be developed outside of inheritance. The problem is, the medication only works when it is taken at at some point she stopped taking it. This is not uncommon in manic depressive or other forms of mental illness as the patient usually says the the medication slows them down and they no longer feel like themselves, the get stunted. The other thing that I wanted to point out is that there are times when the illness is dormant (if you will) and the drug use triggers it and there are other times when the illness presents itself (usually in the late teens to early twenties, so Maia was right on cue) and in some form the person is led to drug use. For instance a key factor in a manic depressive is his very very highs followed by his very very lows (crazy mood swings). When he is suffering a low, he may try to numb the pain by having a drink or two (because he doesn't know what's going on in his brain, he only knows he feels extremely depressed and a drink may make the feeling subside), hence many people who are bipolars are alcoholics and abuse drugs. So, when Maia was taken drugs in her twenties, maybe it was for reasons other than what the public thinks and maybe she didn't even realize why she felt the need to use. How she got started seems pretty irrelevant now, how to get her to stop is the question.

and as an adult its her responsibility to get help in aa communities its taboo to get help for mental illness which is my conclusion as to why we have higher drug use rates do to people self medicating themselves instead of dealing with the illness

Responsibility is not the primary concern of someone not in control of their mental faculties. Completely lucid moments may come and go for her because she is not in a normal state of mind. She needs assistance. She may fight you every step of the way but she does need assistance. When she gets of the drugs and onto medication, it is at this point where she may be able to be proactive in terms of making informed life choices. Yeah some people hit rock bottom and have a moment of clarity and right then and there call for help but that doesn't always happen.

I am glad they are doing this for her. And I am sick of people saying "aww, she so pretty--why is she doing this to herself?" If she were UGLY it would still be sad, you superficial idiots!

The fact of the matter is that she needs help and I am happy that this campaign is going out for her because mental illness and drugs is RAMPANT in the African-American community yet we still choose to stigmatize mental illness and treat the mentally ill like lepers. Black people need to understand that church alone will not solve all of your problems. Even God says 'Faith without works is nothing'! Black people need to utilize psychiatric help, counseling, and therapy. It is not only for white people. There is even free psychiatric help and counseling for those who qualify. My mom works as a case manager for poor and homeless mental patients.

And if Maia is both bipolar AND schizophrenia, this is deadly and she needs to be put in a state hospital. She is too much talent to waste!

I think its her but I think its hella wrong for them to label it as a rant. She is just defending herself...and its a good thing she did too. If she hadn't we might be seeing a totally different video w/ her and that dude.
