Citations from Obama's speech, with commentary:
"We will not sacrifice the liberties we cherish or hunker down behind walls of suspicion and mistrust," the president declared.- Nor will we let a lack of suspicion and excessive trust allow us to abandon our Liberties or our lives.
"As Americans we are not — and never will be — at war with Islam," the president said.- However, Islam is at war with the ALL of the non-islamic world, ourselves included (as a primary target).
"It was not a religion that attacked us that September day — it was al-Qaida, a sorry band of men which perverts religion." - However, it is ONLY members of this religion who attack and murder wantonly and with such glee. ALL non-islamists are viable targets; Warriors, Men, Women, Children, elderly, invalid are the same to them - the enemy.
"The highest honor we can pay those we lost, indeed our greatest weapon in this ongoing war, is to do what our adversaries fear the most," the president said. "To stay true to who we are, as Americans; to renew our sense of common purpose; to say that we define the character of our country, and we will not let the acts of some small band of murderers who slaughter the innocent and cower in caves distort who we are." - Nor will we be lolled into complacency. We HAD forgotten, were overly naive, about just how dangerous some people and parts of the world are. We received a very rude awakening to this fact. Distrust is a basic component of the human animal for very valid reasons - sometimes "they" DO want to kill you!
No Barry, we were awakened from our slumber. We've found that they're using OUR funding, OUR lands, OUR naivete, OUR Freedoms as weapons against us.
