People lining up to be motivated by Laura Bush and Rudy Guliani? This speaks volumes about Cincinnati, and none of what it says is good.

What the hell is Laura Bush qualified to motivate anyone about? Was this a seminar to quit smoking?

These seminars are awful. This is where middle managers learn all the latest corporate buzz words. What kills me is the fact that they drag in these marginal celebrities who read speeches prepared by interns. Anybody who has ever held down a corporate sales job has been sent to something like this. As if listening to Rudy Giuliani flip his lips about determination is going to motivate me to sell a full page ad.

Sounds like they need a full day seminar on reducing urban traffic problems.

Skeptical Observer has it exactly right. Only people in a backwards, racist failure of a city like Cincinnati could be motivated by this group of has beens and never weres.

The other big cliche: sports=business. I had a sales manager who had a big book of golf quotes he would delve into when he wanted to find something inspirational. He also loved to quote Woody Hayes and was infatuated with the banal jibberish Jim Tressel spews. I had another manager who loved to apply sports metaphors to everyday business life. "Fourth and two, people, are we goin going to punt or win the game?"

What game? We were selling security software!

Yet another manager loved to talk about Cal and Lou Gehrig when the issue of attendance came up. I missed one day in two years and he talked about Cal Jr. never missing a game. I told him that if I only had to show up 162 times a year and got paid millions to do it I wouldn't miss a day of work either but since I had a real job that demanded about 285 10 hour days from me each year I was going to have to take advantage of my allotted paid time off.

Dumb, right wing and Cincinnati go together like yogurt and blueberries. From your posts, I'm sure you would have loved Rudy and Laura. They dont think much either.
