Where's uproar over McCain's nutty holy man?

Let's say there was a religious leader, a pillar of his community, an influential preacher with a large flock, who had supported a certain presidential candidate and he might have said some things that could be ... Full Story

I agree with the Frank Rich piece in the New York Times today entitled "The All-White Elephant in the Room":

www.nytimes.com/2008/05/04/opinion/04rich.htm...

I regard all religious persuasions as defects in intellect and character, with the two guys at issue here the most extreme examples of why religion has little to offer us as a solution to our problems other than a temporary hit of euphoria from the "opiate of the poeple".

To agree with Frank Rich on anything shows that you indeed have use of a different half of your brain than others do.
The opponents of Mc Cain now are starting their attacks on him.Hey its all fair in love and war.
Obama just this AM,"Meet The Press",still will not decisively denounce his preacher.
He goes on about the good things he has done..thats OK...BUT!!
Where the hell were you for 20yrs? First he said he could NOT dissociate himself from his minster than he could from his white grandma!..what does that mean?
Then the grand "amnesia "thing....like Col. Klink.."I Know Nothing"
He has a staff, this sitting Senator.Their job includes keeping him informed of things.I guess no one thought the preachers remarks were wrong, especially to a guy running for President.Stuff like we all know is outrageously offensive, raciest. "God Dam America,Chickens coming home...blacks have different brains, and on and on.
Its OK,loony liberals say the same thing.
But its the basic judgment thats in question here..you wanna be President? you need that attachment? you do not recognize most Americans will reject you?
Poor judgment! Unless of course thats his beliefs also..wich I suspect they are,his wife included.20yrs...big contributer to this preacher...Americans are not idiots..at least those using the correct side of their brain LOL!!
So now Mc Cain is being attacked..."If I'm one your are one too" a child's argument.
On the character scale Mc Cain is a heavy weight. They will try to Demine him, this a war hero,a man who gave much for his country,a product of the "Right Stuff" who carries wounds sustained under terrible torture.
Stuff Mc Cain does remembers.Yet with a personalty thats forgiven.Who, would have forgive his tormentors? McCain did .
Compare that with the Wright,Obama style of forgiveness. No they say ,its gotta go on Hate,Hate,... mad Racism.
So in this election its going to be"Its The Minister Stupid" A racial contest..made so by Obama himself..no one else!
The general election will show that.More so than his inability to get his own nomination unanimously.
If some had a brain they stay up all nite watching it,..thosde wih the use of a half of a brain are called half wits!!
So Long!!

Hagee endorsed McCain. Wright has been Obama’s pastor for twenty years. Apples and oranges.

Now if socialist Mike would compare Hagee’s endorsement of McCain to Farrakhan’s endorsement of Obama, then we would have apples and apples.

The far left talk show hosts don't keep beating the same story to death, night after night like O'Reilly and Hannity, so that is why we don't hear more about McCain's relationship with Hagee and Parsley. If we are going to play the guilt by association game, let's not stop with Pastors. Ask John McCain, about his relationship with Savings and Loan Swindler, Charles Keating back in the 80's. Actually, I'm supporting Obama over Hilary, because I really don't want to hear about Vince Foster, Whitewater, and Monica, over and over again this fall.

I have read some of the comments about the Agento/ Hagee article. Anyone who supports McCain and is Catholic should turn in their rosaies. The Hagee endorsement has gotten a pass from the media . Compare it to the Obama flack. Hagee is a bigot period. As a Catholic I find his comments beyond the pale, and McCain doesn't have a problem with it. If you support this position then One can only consider you a biglt too. There is no discussion about it. You are either for the Hagee positon or not. If you are then we know where you stand. Mc Cain MUST denounce Hagee as he did with the other religious wacos in 2000. If not, then McCain stands as an anti-Catholic.

McCain can't be all wrong!!! I vote for whom I choose, not who the Bishop tells me to vote for. And I especially don't subscribe to what the Revs. Wright and Hagee proclaim. Evidently the Clinton's have very little Reverend support, wonder why?

Mike's article is right on the money. Anyone who still thinks "the media is Liberal" is blind! The Conservatives have been supported by right wing religious wackos for the past two decades. I don't hear any big media coverage about the outrageous pronouncements made my THOSE hate-mongers. I used to respect McCain because he had the nerve to call them what they are. But now, he's kissing up to Falwell (yes, I know he's now dead & burning in hell), Robertson, Hagee (the latest "Christian" spewing hate as God's word), and their ilk in order garner votes from the very people who were calling him names a few months ago.

So McCain does like he always does when in a hard to answer the right way situation,he ignores it as much as he can and the press won't push it because they don't want to get his anger up.They want to stay on his good side knowing individuals on the shit list will not get any acknowledgment at press time talks. As for the so called preachers from any sect or big money group the hate is disguised in many ways but it's like Hitler and others have always done in politics and religion give your people a reason to band together to fight the ones I point out to hate for such and such facts that I alone know and have dug up for you by studying and prayer. And if you donate a love offering you get to go to the head of the class. When will people ever think for them selves and not as directed by "their fuhrer"<leader>

I am always amused by the hateful language people use to denounce the "hate-speech" of someone else!

The difference, Mike, is that McCain was never a member of Hagee's church. But I can understand how that would confuse you!

So, Roy, are you saying that people who ARE members of Hagee's church are automatically disqualified to run for president, since they obviously adhere to his views? Do YOU agree with everything YOUR pastor has ever said in every sermon he has ever spoken? If you disagreed with your pastor's sermons, did you quit that church? Have you ever actually heard a full sermon given by Rev Wright (or any member of the "Black Church"), or just heard the selected soundbites put out by those combing the records for ANY way to besmirch Obama's character?

I agree. Furthermore, if McCain is to be blamed because of Hagee, then Obama should be blamed for the Hamas support. And really, nobody should be blamed because of the support from someone else. The only thing that matters is Obama's soaking in hate speech from Wright for 20 years. Argento is an embarrasment to our community.

By this, I take it you mean ANYONE who has been a member of Falwell's church, Hagee's church, or any of the other "Christian" Megachurches that spew hatred and completely miss Jesus' message of loving EVERYONE should be barred from politics? You know, that "Moral Values" bunch that cares more for tax cuts so they can afford their McMansions than caring for the downtrodden in our society? Or should we maybe just stick to the Constitution and keep religious litmus tests out of politics?

As to Mike Argento, he's the bravest columnist in the paper. It takes a courageous man to voice a Liberal opinion to the moronic Conservative masses...and York County has more than it's share of them. No wonder PA has the reputation it does.

Yes, Mike is extremely brave stealing the position and talking points directly from Mother Jones and Move On. But, I guess that does not matter as long as it furthers the socialist cause…
