Is (male) nudity cut out of older R Rated movies when released to DVD to give a new PG rating?

Are nude scenes, especially male nudity, cut out of movies that were once Rated R and originally released on VHS but when released on DVD for the first time nudity, especially that of male is cut out just to be cut out without changing the rating or possibly cut out to give a PG or PG-13 rating in order to sell it to a larger audience? Are we becoming a more puritanical society and one of censorship and shunning of (male) nudity? I know that Top Gun was originally rated R and when released to DVD is now PG. Tell me if I'm mistaken but I recall a scene on there where James Tolkan was talking to a pilot in the lockerroom, they were both clothed, but there was one or two guys in the distance showering and/or changing, they were completely nude but it was rear nudity and showed their butts, but (not pun intended) that scene is no longer in the PG DVD release of Top Gun which would mean it's not the real theatrical release of the movie. I know for a fact that in the theatrical/VHS release of The Green Mile (originally Rated R in theaters and on VHS but is now Rated PG on the DVD release) when Percy Wetmore (Doug Hutchison) is put in the sanitarium towards the end of the movie they are undressing him and it show his buttocks (rear male nudity) on the original release. On the DVD/PG release they have replaced that scene with an alternative scene of Percy being escorted into his room (clothed) and him looking out the window. What is up with all the censorship?! I don't see it happening to female nudity mostly male. In the Psycho 1998 remake at the beginning it shows Sam Loomis (Viggo Mortensen's) full butt when pulls open the blinds in the motel room in the beginning of the movie in the fullscreen VHS release of the movie and I saw the full butt in the theater even though it is always widescreen in theaters. When they released the movie to a widescreen DVD it cut out his butt partially or completely. I can't help to wonder if that wasn't done deliberately and there is no fullscreen version of the movie on DVD. Psycho, the original and the remake, are still Rated R. In the fullscreen VHS of Porky's it shows frontal nudity of the guys sitting down in a row waiting for a sexual encounter with an older woman in a house but the widescreen DVD release cuts out their lower bodies. I just cannot believe this is all purely coincidental. I've read that male nudity was cut out of the DVD release of The Possession of Joel Delaney but is still in there toward the end of the theatrical/VHS release. That movie was and still is Rated R. Is there homophobia when it comes to male nudity? If so why now and not long ago when these movies were made? Why are the incidents of male nudity so taboo compared to all the explicit female nude scenes they show? They even list male nudity rating warnings on movies like the Jackass movies. Why is male and female nudity treated with different standards? Do any of you know of any other movies where male nude scenes were later cut out or cut out in the DVD release? I'd like to know this before buying any DVD releases, widescreen movies, or changed ratings because I like to have the full, uncensored versions of all movies. If they are changed on DVD I buy the VHS release instead. Can't the movie companies release a R Rated version and a PG rated version simultaneously for those of us to want the true theatrical release? Why are adults censored from (male) nudity in R Rated or even some PG-13 movies?

Someone responded to this on another site and on Facebook:;_ylt=...

I heard they edited out the nude lockerroom scene of Kevin Bacon and Christopher Penn from Footloose too in DVD releases. Footloose was originally rated R and now in PG and PG-13 ratings as well.
