Here's another story about K-man's kindness:

Chauffeur shares touching Keanu story, thanks actor for class act
By KAYE VILLAGOMEZ
September 5, 2011, 8:45am

MANILA, Philippines -- An internet user and former LA chauffeur finally thanked actor Keanu Reeves for sending his dying wife an autographed picture of the actor and two dozens of long stem roses.

Following a trivia article about Reeves posted Sept. 2 in time for the actor’s 47th birth anniversary, the anecdote shared by “Gary” read:“Eight years ago I was a chauffeur in L.A. and was driving for Mr. Reeves. My wife was in the hospital with cancer, when she found out who I was driving, she asked me to get his autograph.

“I broke the golden rule about bothering celebs. He not only sent her an autographed pix he sent two dozen long stem roses. She was on cloud nine.”

Gary then returned the touching gesture:“Mr. Reeves, we never got a chance to thank you... You made a dying woman very happy. Hope you have many more great years. The world could use a few more people like you. Happy Birthday.”

Prior to this post, the article Yahoo uploaded about Keanu revealed of a very low-keyed yet very generous star.

Part of the story titled “Keanu Reeves Turns 47: Five Fun Facts You (Probably) Didn’t Know About Him,” indicated:“Rather than wring every dime he could out of the popular ‘Matrix’ movie series, Reeves signed away his back-end deal for the two sequels to the films’ special-effects and costume-design teams – an act of benevolence that cost him many millions. And it’s far from the only time he’s taken a financial hit in the name of his art – Reeves lowered his salary by a few million dollars for 1997’s ‘The Devil’s Advocate’ so that producers could afford to bring Al Pacino on board as well.”

PS: I know usual suspects (Keanu-basher) will say this is just another *marketing strategy*,but I thought real fans would be interested in such a heart-felt story...

Thanks, Odi. These are great stories which I've read before but are worth seeing bumped up again.

Thanks for posting this, it is a touching story indeed and I could totally see Keanu doing smt like this...

Cancer must have a big affect in his life and he must be extra-sensitive for people who suffer from that terrible disease. He always supported cancer charities and charity events, the man has a kind heart...

This is another reason why he is so more endearing than other actors/actresses. These random act of kindness make him seem more humble and considerate of others around him. He is successful, rich, and famous, so he could be another Hollywood entitled snob, but instead he chooses to be down to earth and as regular as regular can be for him. This is what I admire about him.

Interestingly, I don't think I have ever heard a derogatory remark made about him. I haven't read a co-star or a former flame talk bad about him. Any thoughts?

That's the point! If I only read plenty of amazing storys about how kind, generous, friendly ... he is, I could think - this is all grate PR. But no one bed word, no evil gossip ( in Hollywood !!!)That's for me the best evidence, he IS really a good man.
Of course, some times, in public, he plays the role, gives us, what we are expecting to see.Who not? Who never played well-behaved grand-child, cool tienager, lovely daughter-in-low, strong mother? Only, he can do it beter than most of us - he is , undoubtedly, a good actor and well-behaved man. Nothing wrong with it!

I think it is this little acts of kindness which makes him a real star, not a movie star, a star of hearts <3, as this former driver says, the world could definitely use more people like Keanu...

Thank you finding this little gem,Odibodi!

I think there are plenty of those random acts of kindness, many who worked with him already knows this, I remember reading somewhere the story of a Matrix cast member -not one of the leads- who was talking about Keanu taking care of her when she was sick, bringing soup, etc and trying to cheer her up, that was a sweet story, I wish I could find the link..

Anyways,as I say there are probably plenty of those stories and such grace and kindness must have gained Keanu enough brownie points to protect him from the negative vibes of nay-sayers...

Couldn't say it better! Keanu is not someone who uses charity or acts of kindness for self-promotion, like everything else most of his charity is discreet, in one of his recent interviews when somebody asked about charity, he said he has a foundation funding health and education projects for kids but he doesn't affiliate his name to it,just shows humble the man is, he does charity for the sake of charity not for recognition...

I also found this TDESS interview where he brushes off compliments of Jennifer Connelly, she is an actress I really admire, such a shame they had to pair up in TDESS instead of a better movie:

Nice interview, thanks friedgreentomato!

He really doesn't like too many compliments, I've seen this reaction in other interviews as well and I agree his humility is what makes him so sympathetic, if he was one of those HW divas, I don't think Keanu would have the broad fan base he has...

That's kind of off-topic but if you liked HC's soundtract, it's Sharon Jones & Dapkings by the way and most of the songs used in the movie is in their album '100 DAYS 100 NIGHTS' and in that album there is an amazing song called 'Humble me', listen it and you won't regret...

Why post anything at all when somebody says it better (smiles), you nailed it Artemismoon, these are the very qualities which made me respect and admire the man, there are a lot of good actors out there, even better actors than Keanu, but he is unique in a way as he manages to keep that sort of goodness in him, he is a level-headed, charming guy, a rare treat in the Hollyweird and I think it speaks volumes that none of his exes badmouthed him or ever tried to hurt him in anyway, when you think about it, not one single Hollywood scandal in more than 20 years in a town which lives on scandals, that's impressive, huh? I know we have a bunch of nay-sayers who doesn't seem to appreciate this kind of common decency, they might be ready to smear the mud everytime somebody posts something nice about him, but that sure doesn't stop Gary or others who saw the gentle side of Keanu from sharing their experience and that's what matters in the end, isn't it?

Ditto, what Charlie Sheen did to himself and most of those spoilt slobs are rather shameless about their top-notch scandals, Keanu will never be one of them, I think lots of good karma keeps him away from that particular brand of HW nastiness, yeah 20 yrs and not one scandal, that is smt to celebrate...

A bona fide story about Keanu, search for Octavia Spencer and Keanu on Youtube.com . This Golden Globe 2012 supporting actress tells Jay Leno how Keanu helped her out years ago..........

Hey esmeralda, welcome to the board! And thanks for the link but Octavia's story has been already posted at topix:

http://www.topix.com/forum/who/keanu-reeves/T...

Probably this little thread was lost among many theories of Keanu bashers questioning whether he is white or not, whether he is allowed to consider himself as such (as if it's any of their business) and the usual drunk/stoner/gay comments from usual suspects ;))

Whatever crazy theory those people are going for, there is no denying the man has a heart of gold <3

I admire him as an actor, but I respect him for the person that he truly is when stories like these are shared. My grandmother taught me that respect is earned; he has definitely earned much respect in my opinion. The fact that he is such a humble man makes him all the more endearing...

Yes. breathoflife. Selfless people are rare in this world. And in show business even more. It's nice to see that some are able to keep their feet down on the ground and don't forget that we are all just humans and life is only precious if we care for eachother no matter who and what we are.

Ditto ladies!!!!

Over the years I have heard so many similar stories of his kindness, I appreciate him even more...Don't get me wrong, I would still enjoy his movies, interviews, etc, even if he didn't do these things but knowing that he is indeed a gentle soul somehow makes me proud of being his fan ;))

And stories like this is a nice change from reading Donna/ardith's posts about how mean-spirited Keanu is, he/she may continue his/her endless rants about K-man but his fans will never stop supporting him...
