Here is an interpretation of that series or collection.

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0268/i...

What I found very interesting was the fact that Keith Mayerson is a friend of Dennis Cooper, who used Keanu as a model for a character in one of his novels and he is also a friend of Stephen Prina who had at class about Keanu's films at The Passadina School for Art and Design.

Keith and Cooper used Keanu's likeness in their graphic novel, Horror Hospital Unplugged.

I bought Horror Hospital but I ended up throwing it away. I thought maybe I was going to die of cancer so I threw some things away that might confuse my sisters, if they cleaned out my apartment after my death.

I could not judge it as far as comics go. It was a gay story and involved young men, Cooper's favorite subject. It was all line drawings, no color that I remember but Mayerson always used a recognizable Keanu image (he might have made him a dog in one scene) since Keanu was Keith's obsession and there was never any doubt about that. I once read a letter written to Buzz magazine, telling the editor that Mayerson had appropriated Keanu as his fantasy figure, pretty much for all occasions. A rather silly journalist (from Buzz) had interviewed Mayerson about his preoccupation with Keanu.

Good, your thought was wrong.
You know, at my opinion, little words tells sometimes big stories. If I got an idea, that I'm dieing from cancer, honestly, I don't know, how I should behavior.I'm not sure, I'll be occupied about shocking impresson, my ( not existed) sisters could get.
My impession is,that once in your life you've got label of bitter, cynical , always-against-the-flow person. And, probably, it's not compeletely non-true.And some way, it could be easier for you to act according to this script. It's not without danger, to show the world your inner soft places. For me it's all right, if you prefere to keep it for yourself; but I like to think, they exist.

By the way, I looked (diagonal) on Luca's last link. I didn't find any faces, looking like KR

Yel, I had the book and he used Keanu's image from one of Gorman's photographs, I think I posted it here but I will show you again, after I look it up.

You should look at all of the Pinocchio images. At one point Mayerson had a showing, one hundred pictures of Keanu or Keanu and River...it may have been a Hamlet show...I forget now.

It was kind of like this image...

I think the last painting I remember seeing from Mayerson was possibly the one he did of Neo stopping the bullets.

I assume you know the story of Pinocchio.

Yel, the reason I threw my book away is because alot of the pictures in the book are sexually graphic. It is not for children and I assume alot of graphic novels are not meant for children.

Two of my sisters are fudamentalist Christians. They would have been offended by the imagies in the book. Of course, now I wish I had not thrown it away.

Actually,it depends on, how should I say... mesure of talent. If you know, it's portret of KR - you can certainly rcognize him.If you come from outside, unaware - you can see whoever else. To make judgement, I have to know his style, to comare, how he draws another people ( whom I know).Honestly, I find his obsessive style a bit too tireing to be funny; and I'm too lazy to study seiously something what I don't find funny or interesting. Not on Eastern Monday!!(I'm fundamentalistic about the point that it's sin to work at such big Christian holiday. If somebody would sent me a list of the days, when it's sin to work according to any another religion, I should be even glade).
What abot Pinocchio - nothing is simple by me, with my mixed origine and Soviet past. We've had our own, Russian/Soviet version of Pinocchio - very funny and nothing political/propaganda. He even has another name - Buratino. But I think, deails may be different, main storyline should be the same?

There is a beautiful flamish word - "goesting". It means about : wish, desire, pleasure, lust. You can have goesting for a cane of beer or to read a book or...(see Pinocchio).
Few years ago hier in Europe was a kind of epidemy - elections of the most popular word. Decent countries around us voted for nice words like "mother" . Flammings chose "goesting".
Well, I'm offen admiring people, who has goesting to dig among a lot of information, study literature and art. That's the same kind of selfeducation, that I admire by KR.[Now they both would like to kill me; may not - Eastern Monday, hi-hi] My dear Luca and ardith, how polar different you are - you have something common ;D

oh, the horror, the horror... ;)

Yelena - I haven't read the book, so can't comment on the drawings - yet. While I am somewhat of a graphic novels/comics fan, I tend to stick with the 'classics', and Mayerson's not within their rank.(I'm talking Eddie Campbell, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Frank Miller, Dave McKean and Leonardo Manco, just to name a few.) But putting it on my reading list.

As for the inspiration for Trevor's looks, Cooper himself said it was based on Alex James from Blur (just google the name and choose images), but hey, we all see what we want to see and ardith knows better ;)

it's the same ole neverending argument.

From my way of thinking...it's a sin to work most days.

This story is that Lampwick was a bad influence on Pinoccio. When Pinnochio was ask if he had been spending time with Lampwick...his nose grew, because he said no, he was lying. When Lampwick and Pinocchio were kidnapped and taken away to the Island of lazy, bad boys...they were turned into donkeys. I beleive in the story, Pinnochio was saved but not Lampwick. Of course it kind of seems more like Keanu was saved but not River. Who knows? The saying goes, only the good die young.

I wish I still had the book because it almost seemed like a collectors item and at the time, it was kind of expensive for me to buy.

My sisters will never be educated about homo sex. To them, it is a sin. They have no gaydar and don't acknowledge homosexuals in the family.

Yel- you mean Aleksei Tolstoi's 'The Golden Key'? I grew up with it!:D
although, I dunno about lack of political agenda. At the end, when the puppets set up their own theater and kick out the evil human owner... hmmm ;)

The original is a little different. You can find a shortened version here:

By the way, I'm not sure, but I thnk, tis "politically correct" end wasn't from beginning, but made later .
And have you seen the movie?
" 3 000 buckets of water yet - and golden key would be in our pocket!".- It became a kind of proverb for my generation :]

no, haven't seen any of the movies (neither version). As a child, I didn't care much for movies; books were my only interest; TV was just another piece of furniture :)

Luca, I never said any part of Trevor was based on Keanu. I said Keanu is pictured in the book a few times. Keanu Reeves.
