A commenter on this board mentioned going to a wedding anniversary of his uncle Edward, "Baby Sammy"'s brother. Keanu's grandma Momi is his mother.

http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php...

"Aunty Momi is a beautiful hula dancer, as she displayed last night. You can see where Keanu got those slightly slanted (Chinese) eyes."

Comment was written in 2008. I sincerely hope Momi is alive and well.

I think that the key to Keanu's true personality is his relationship with Momi. This is a mystery. I would like to know more about it and her. She sounds fascinating.

I wonder why Keanu denies her existence. Is it because she is obviously a woman of color and he calls himself "white"?

I just realized that if Edward is his uncle so is Sam, and this commenter is some kind of cousin of Keanu.

For some reason, he seems to resent his Grandmother. He told the story about laying on his hotwheels tracks, so she couldn't hit him with a piece of it...she picked up his hockey stick, instead. The way he said it, it always makes me laugh. Sam insisted that his mother (Momi) raised the children...not Patricia. It was said that Momi sued for custody of keanu and kim but the kids wanted to stay with their mother.

Anyway, you know some drama was going on. One of keanu's friends mentioned staying the night at Keanu's house and his parents didn't come home till morning.

Where did you hear that Momi sued for custody? grandparents rights are completely inferior to to parental rights in US law and I doubt it is different in Canada law. Usually they can get visitation rights, but in the case of custody, the law is massively on the side of the parents.

Perhaps Momi instigated Sam into suing? This is an interesting tidbit.

I can see the whole thing: Momi and Patric fighting over Keanu (and Kim). Where's Daddy?

"For some reason, he seems to resent his Grandmother."

It's race. Momi has little or not white blood. She's a woman of color. Showing her around in public would undercut the white boy from Toronto myth/garbage.

This disturbs me.

Of course it's not race. He said from the beginning that his mother is "English" and father is Hawiian/Chinese. Besides that, he does think of himself as white...probabaly because he looks more white than anything else. I read the story about Momi trying to get custody from The Enquirer, years ago. They quoted a cousin. Sam has given a few interviews and he said that Momi raised the children. Alice Cooper mentions Momi. Alice said Keanu was left alone, so he would take him for band practice and give him candy and soda. Then he said that anyone who would let Alice Cooper baby sit their kid, they would have to be crazy. Alice was quite a drinker at that point in his life.

"Of course it's not race."

God speaks.

"Besides that, he does think of himself as white...probabaly because he looks more white than anything else."

Not to me. To me he looks mixed.

The only reason he's been upfront about his Hawaiian/Chinese blood is because of his name. He would have to be honest about it.

But being honest about something (because you have to be, not because you want to be) doesn't make you happy about it.

I do not think he is proud of his nonwhite ancestry. It's ridiculous for a man whose paternal ancestry is nonwhite to call himself white.

If he said something like, "I'm psychologically white, even though I am half Hawaiian/Chinese" OK, but to call yourself (severl times) white when you aren't, to me, shows shame. And denial.

The first time I saw him on a commercial for Babes In Toyland...I did think he looked Asian and since I am very attracted to Asians...of course I thought he was beautiful but then I saw him in Dangerous Liasons and I didn't know it was the same actor. I didn't know he was Asian. I guess he is ever changing because of the lighting or whatever? The first time I saw him on Jay Leno 1993? he said he was a mutt and then told what his heritage was. His name is Keanu, kind of obviously Hawaiian...I think. also he said his name was special, I forget the exact word he used...because it was Hawaiian. Very white people in the last century, had to call themselves African American, because they had a grandparent way back when, who was black, it can be confusing. To me if you look white you are white. The President identifies as black...because he looks black...even though he is half white. Too me, it's all in the way you look.

Whatever....

I just know that the only thing I really like about this strange dude is his Hawaiian side. The Reeves clan of Kuliou'ou Valley. They just interest me (not excusing Sam's atrocious behavior, I'm talking about the whole clan, and Momi's clan as well...). And however Keanu sees himself, they are proud Hawaiians with Chinese blood. And without them, what would he be? Mr. Reeves, boring bland white guy.

So I hope that in this secret private life that he is supposed to live away from the cameras (the one where he is going to live with Charlize and make babies....), he has a relationship with them, including his Momi. Who raised him.

I think he has a relationship with some of the. At one point I was just looking around and I stoppd at a board that had nothing to do with Keanu. I guess it was when Keanu was in Austin filming Scanner. The owner of the blog mentioned him and a couple of the ladies said how fine he was and one said something like she wished he was all her's. A poster on the blog said she would have to share because Keanu was bi...he aid he knew, because he was a relative. Anyway...I went to that guys blog and helived in Hawaii...which island I forget. He was a teacher and translated the old Hawaiian language. He was gay and into muscles. He said nothing at all about Keanu on his blog. Keanu was not his interest. He seemed like a nice guy, young. I told ugossip about him, they had a fit, per usual and one of the girls e-mailed him, even though I ask her not to. He never answered her and then he changed his blog address. I did find him again and I looked at the pictures...cute guys. Anyway, he was interested in their culture and he had a nice blog.

Sorry for my typing errors. I should always proof read. Another time I looked up a blog of someone Keanu is connected with. I was curious about the guy and interested about his take on Hollywood. At that point, someone hacked into my computer and they let me know on ugossip, that they had looked around in my computer. So, I never went back to that blog.

There is a show on TV about looking for ancesters...a family tree thing. I wish Keanu would have that done but I think he probably already knows more about his family than he wants to know. Actually I'm interested in why Patricia left home when she was so young. I'm also curious about Sam's stepfather. To think that he became rich by selling children's encyclopedias...that's odd. I mean the man owned race horses, how do those two things mix? In my own life...the only people who I know owned race horses, were in the mafia.

Darn, I wrote something & computer ate my response....

Anyway, I had the same thought about the ancestors TV show. I wish Keanu would have done it but he never will. I know you disagree but I think he is touchy about his non-white background, only preferring to talk about it when he can explain the meaning of his name.

I think I know the cousin you are referring to, an openly gay teacher. I found out about him by accident as well. So he says K is "bi." Well I thought so....before I changed to gay. Shouldn't the cousin know?

I don't think there is any big secret about Patricia's leaving home. In England a lot of people drop out of school early. It's a class-ridden society. Regarding Sam's step, my impression was that he was a rich dude, and horsemanship is one of the hobbies of the idle rich. Mafiosi got into it but the sport started as a plaything of the idle gentry.

I think in an article about the Reeve's in the Honolulu Advertiser a distant cousin mentioned that he had come back for a family wedding in 1997. Now wait a minute. Hawaii is a long way away, and to interrupt a very busy schedule for some distant cousin's wedding is unlikely if he is totally estranged from them.

I do not think he is. Families have tensions between members, fathers and sons, etc., but a complete rupture is rare. And who is to say he hasn't patched it up with Sam? We haven't heard from Sam in years but he's around. Maybe they made up.

I hope he has patched it up with Sam and his granmother but I don't know...Keanu talked about there being a lot of pain. I have a feeling when Keanu felt like he needed his Dad the most...he was no where to be found. Sometimes that's hard to forgive.

I can't go into full detail but I want to mention that Keanu Reeves loves his family. He is not a racist nor is he embarrassed of his heritage. There are things that went on in the family dynamics way before Keanu was famous. I would not feel comfortable publicizing such issues. Just know that things were witnessed on visits to the family home there in Hawaii. Keanu is a good person. That is one thing you can believe when you see people talk about him.

I wanted to clarify that things that were witnessed was the treatment and comments made in regards to Keanu as a child in the paternal family home when Patric was not around to protect him. I'm only sharing this because I don't feel it's fair to blame Keanu for the way he is towards the family. It's just regular stuff you would find in everyday families.

The last interview I saw of Sam, made me feel sorry for him. He could have used a little financial help...especially to get his teeth fixed and I know it would be like a drop in the bucket for Keanu. Yes that bothered me. Sam did not ask for help. He didn't seem to think he had been so bad that Keanu should hate him. Most father's are rather imperfect.

This is none of our business. Wondering, if you would like someone sleuthing you and your family...Here again, I certainly belong to the idiots circle. And she said: Let the nuts come to me!

"Keanu Reeves loves his family."

I believe this is true. I have no proof that he's angry at Momi; only Donna says so. For all I know he could be calling her on the phone every day. Regarding Sam, maybe Keanu has sent him some money. That interview took place in 2001, 10 years ago.

I am going to assume he's made up with his father. Why not assume the best?
