About 4:30 minutes into the following clip she adlibs for no reason and calls pagans "bad" and "nasty".
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/253...
I doubt she did it out of hate,or even thought about it before it came out of her mouth, and it was probably said in complete ignorance.....but she still said it.
If she'd made that comment about Jews or Muslims she'd be off the air,and yet the mainstream media completely ignored it along with dozens of phone calls and emails demanding an apology.
Should members of the news media smear (intentional or not) other religious groups on a whim, and disregard those offended?
Would you feel differently if she'd said it about a larger more mainstream religion?

I know NBC got three letters from my family alone. My guess is that NBC is ignoring far more than "dozens" of complaints... it's just not enough for them to justify swallowing their pride and appologizing.

For Kathie Lee Gifford to do this is inexcusable. Seriously. I googled Kathie Lee Gifford's name a few times, and it seems she is a pretty hardcore Christian. It's a shame she allowed her personal religious feelings to spill over into the airwaves, polluting American in such a manner.

According to her wiki...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathie_Lee_Giffo ...

She was Anita Bryant's live-in secretary/babysitter.

Her brother, Rev. David Paul Epstein, is an evangelical Baptist preacher and pastor.

Kathie Lee attended Oral Roberts University.

With such strong ties to a religion that's well known for speaking up when slurred in a public forum.....you'ld think she would know better.

If the Today Show and Kathie Lee thought this would pass for an apology, they were sorely mistaken. The "apology" starts at around 2.25 (should you not want to listen to the first bit) it's made fun of throughout here and there, then the worst bit is in the last 30 seconds or so. So we're a joke, eh? Yes, Kathie Lee, we know who we are. And you know this is a VERY un-Christian way to behave. For SHAME.
Any other religious group would be seething. Any other would be demanding an honest, respectful apology. We will get ours, too. Time to get our dignity back. Or perhaps their sponsors, in this time of tricky economics don't want or need our almighty dollar? Perhaps the Today Show doesn't need us to watch every morning? I certainly don't need to watch and have my daughter ask, "Mommy, did that woman just call us dirty and nasty because we're Pagan?!" What right does a woman in the public eye have to do that to my family or ANY family for that matter? You bet I'm upset. I will stand up for every Pagan now, for Pagans past, Pagans present (right down the the Dalai Lama, he's not in the umbrella of the "Big Three"(Christianity, Judaism, Islam), that makes him a Pagan, too, Kathie Lee, or perhaps you didn't realize? How about Deepak Chopra? Did you realize you were calling him dirty and nasty, too?
It's time to educate others as to what Pagans are and what Pagans are *not* and to show people like Kathie Lee and the Today Show that this sort of behavior is not acceptable.
I'm touched to see that dear friends who are also Christians have written the Today Show in protest. It's not over yet.

I am absolutely completely offended now. Before I was willing to let her apologize for her ignorance about the religion and say that everyone has the right to choose their religion and she should not have slandered it, even though it is not her personal choice.

Instead, she chose to mock our requests for an apology, as if it was funny that we were offended by a "nasty, bad" comment on our personal beliefs. Thank you Kathy Lee Gifford for acting like a haughty, snotty, 15 year old mean girl and continuing to give christianity a bad name.

What an offensive and ignorant remark about Pagans. If someone had made a derogatory remark about her religious beliefs, she would have been a shrike in her response. If NBC had any decency, they would fire her.

What an awful thing for her to say. Did you see the look on the guys face when she said it too, how freaking rude! I really don't appreciate her defining a group of people (ANY PEOPLE) by such ignorance.

I USED to be a fan of hers. I liked her singing and I put up with her ultra Christianity. Because I subscribe to the "Harm None" edict of Wicca.
But now I'm on a warpath. I am going to drag out my copy of her book, "I Can't Believe I said That." and sign it "from a person who is no longer your fan, love, a dirty nasty pagan."
I am going to send it to the Today show. I will also tell her a little bit about me, how I work everynight in a hospital taking care of sick people, I used to work in the hospice unit, holding hands of the dying, and yes, I would say a Christian prayer for those in need, because I am full of love. And Kathie Lee, who is a Christian and SUPPOSED TO FOLLOW CHRIST'S TEACHINGS OF LOVING YOUR NEIGHBORS needs to shut her mouth.
I am a Pagan, and Proud and certainly not dirty or nasty or bad.
How many so-called Christians are there out there shooting up schools and shopping centers?
She needs to speak out on that stuff and leave us Pagans AND our holiday traditions alone.
She'd better not be buying eggs for Eostre anymore, as those (and bunnies) are PAGAN CUSTOMS.

I didn't know there was such a thing as the "pagan religion" ? there isn't! I suggest you look up the word pagan in the dictionary/ you might be offended!I'd tell you the definition but you would do well to look it up yourself.
