Country star John Rich turned himself into police to face assault and harassment charges filed by former 'Nashville Star' contestant Jared Ashley. The 35-year-old musician was charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault and one misdemeanor count of harassment. He was released on $3,000 bond.
In April, Rich sued Ashley, saying the aspiring singer defamed him by claiming Rich hit him in the face. Rich says the charges are false and he rejected a settlement offer to pay $2.9 million to have them dropped.
TMZ reports that Rich released a statement through his lawyers, saying that he'd rather defend himself "through the legal process to the fullest extent of the law," since attempts to settle the matter with Ashley have failed.
He says, "I trust that the truth will come out through the process of our American justice system and that I will be completely exonerated at the end of the day."
Rich is part of the duo Big & Rich. His latest solo hit is 'Shuttin' Detroit Down.'
Ashley was a contestant during the fourth season of the TV show on the USA network

So, it's for misdemeanor charges. I can't see where this is such big news and I'm glad John decided to fight this out in court rather than just sign a check and hand to this jerk.

Carrie.... You can't seem to hold anything against John, can you? No matter what he does, however ugly or sordid or validated by evidence, you assume he's innocent and maligned. The same with his marriage from what I've seen in other posts.
I'm all for giving someone the benefit of the doubt, but there's no doubt John hit Jared Ashley and threatened him - it's on tape! Jared is ridiculous to try to get so much money from him, but that doesn't mean John is the victim.

I'd like to know why he would rather drink and fight every night than be home with his new wife. That makes his marriage look even worse. His wife must not realize the trouble he's in, or maybe she would tell him to just stay home if he can't behave.

The fact that he KEEPS going out and starting trouble (with all the trouble he's already in), instead of living quietly with his wife, proves that he has not settled down at all. And also that his wife can't influence him for the better. You just can't defend her not curbing his behavior when he is so out of control. It's like he doesn't even have a wife or anyone who cares about him.

I'm so disillusioned with him, his career, and his marriage. It's one big joke. And such a sad waste of talent.

Oh yes sure, you know everything don't you Jessica. Yeah right, you don't know anything and that's my whole point. It's people like you who go around making stupid comments and other idiots believe this crap. You go right ahead and believe whatever you want to as I will but please don't go around spreading lies!

John Rich on 6-2-09 proved he is a violent person.
Mr.Rich went to Cafe Coco in Nashville and threatened a server there. He said "I'll kick your ass" I'll Fuc!#n do it to" police were called and Nashville TV News station 2 got it on film. It's clear with his past that his drinking is a problem. All I know is Mr. Rich does not have what it takes to come to Jonesboro AR and say to my face what he said to my nephew. The article was on also with a video clip.Mr.Rich--be a man and go to CafeCoco and apologize to Kyle the server you threatened.

What do you believe Carrie? Are ALL of these stories made up, and he's just misunderstood and getting picked on? What about the numerous sightings of him with other women while he was secretly dating his wife and his well-known reputation as a womanizer? Him starting a fight over a girl in his hotel room 2 months before his wedding? The affidavits mentioning him with other women? His behavior getting WORSE since the wedding when he should be settling down?

Which part of all that isn't common knowledge, and why don't you believe it? Do you personally know him to disprove all this when everyone else agrees it's true? Do you call his actions "settling down"? I sure as hell don't. I'm not buying it. And you don't even try to disprove anything, you just call people liars when you don't like what they say.

As for his wife, he called her his own personal June Carter Cash, but I think that's wishful thinking. He is obsessed with Johnny Cash and has tried to model his life after Johnny's, so clearly he thinks his wife must be just like June. But Joan hasn't save John. I'll believe in their marriage when she gets John sober and stable (she's already had 8 years to do it!!). He is out of control, and she's just watching him crash and burn.

Carrie get over yourself. You're obviously so in love with John that you're blind to everything he does wrong. That's fine if you want to be that way, but don't say other people are lying because they call him out for his behavior. He's a great musician and I can appreciate his music, but he's not a nice person. Having talent doesn't excuse his horrible behavior.
